After several months, “Counting On” fans could finally see the beautiful marriage proposal that John-David Duggar made to Abbie Burnett.
During the premiere of season 9 of “Counting On” this February 11, we could see the emotional proposal that John-David prepared with such dedication to surprise his future wife.
The young couple was just a few months courting after they met in a church that John's parents went to preach. And since they began to talk, they felt as if they had known each other all their lives.
John planned his proposal with the help of a Texas photographer named Lori and with the help of Maggie, Abbie's sister. This is how John was able to surprise the woman he loves, appearing in the kitchen of her house as a surprise.
“I’ve spoken to Abbie’s sister, Maggie, and Maggie is helping my orchestrate some stuff on that end. I’m going to pick Abbie up, surprise her, fly her to Texas, and I’m going to get down on one knee and ask the love of my life if she would love, hopefully, to spend the rest of her life with me.”
John and Abbie explained to the spectators what their standards were for courtship. "[Our] courtship standards have been slightly different from some of my brothers," John explained. They both sat at the beginning of their relationship and made their specific guidelines for touching.
"Our main goal was to honor God and not lament," she said, and John added, "We are not going to kiss [before marriage], we set very strict standards of what is right and what is not right."
On a heart made of rose petals that the photographer had placed on the floor, John was able to say the question that he so longed for an affirmative answer.
"Life has been wonderful since May 6," John David told Abbie. "We started flying, that was the first thing we did together. So, anyway, I wanted to know if you wanted to keep flying with me. The journey of our relationship has been so surprising so far, but I feel that the time has come to ask about the next step. Therefore, I want to know ... do you have something to do for the rest of your life? Because if you really don’t have big plans, I'd love you to spend the rest of your life with me. Will you marry me?"
Without hesitation, Abbie said yes, and the romantic moment concluded with a photo session. The sisters of John and Abbie, Jana and Maggie, were visibly moved and proud of the great decision their siblings made.
John and Jana enjoy a truly close relationship as brother and sister, and maybe the reason is that they are twins. Their parents have recently showered them with love for their birthday on January 12. The couple posted a sweet message on Instagram celebrating the twins birthday.
“Happy 29th birthday to our first set of twins, John-David and Jana! It has been an absolute joy to be your parents for the past 29 years! We are so thankful for you both and the deep love and commitment you both have for Christ! We can’t wait to see what the next year will bring for your lives and love you both so very much!"
