Steph Curry's mother wows the crowd with a half-court shot during Curry Family Foundation event
Steph Curry's mother makes an amazing winning shot during a family shootout on All-Star Weekend.
If you thought Steph Curry inherited his basketball skills from his father alone, then you’re wrong. His mother proved to be quite the shooter when she nailed a half-court shot recently.
A FAMILY AFFAIR
The Currys got together to kick off the NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte with an event sponsored by the Curry Family Foundation at the Carole Hoefner Center.
On hand to compete for the event’s shootout contest were Steph’s parents, Dell and Sonya who comprised one of four teams who vied that day. Steph and his wife Ayesha played as one team while Steph’s brother Seth and his wife Camille led another. The fourth team was led by the Curry brothers’ sister Sydel who joined forces with Warriors reserve guard Damien Lee’s wife, Steph.
Each team had a third player to complete the trio who would perform a lay-up, free-throw, three-pointer, and half-court shot.
A WINNING SHOT
While it was expected that the Curry men would deliver, the matriarch of the family became the event’s highlight. Impressing the crowd, Sonya landed an underhand half-court shot that resulted in her team’s win. Her husband and son couldn’t help but be thrilled by her accomplishment. They ran around the gym to express their amazement. It shouldn't come as a surprise, though, since Sonya was once a basketball star in high school and was also a player for Virginia Tech University.
A GOOD CAUSE
The Currys are currently together in North Carolina not just for the shootout, but more importantly, to celebrate their foundation’s latest project. They refurbished their hometown’s community center ahead of the All-Star games. As part of their efforts, they equipped the center with a computer lab, a STEM education area, and locker rooms. The indoor gym was also refurbished and renamed the Curry Court.
A FORMIDABLE PARTNERSHIP
The Curry’s have always been known for their passion for basketball. Everyone in the family is into the sport. Steph, however, has also branched out into becoming a poster parent along with his wife, Ayesha. The couple recently graced the March issue of Parents magazine for the second time proving they make quite the couple to beat when it comes to raising a family.
