Mom heartbroken as 12-year-old son becomes the third family member to die in a car accident
Katie Jo Tolley, from Bridlington, is suffering from overwhelming distress as her 12-year-old son Taylor died in a road accident after losing two partners to crashes.
Taylor died of his injuries after he was struck by a car on Brett Street in Bridlington on February 15. It is the third tragedy to befall his mother Katie, as reported by Bridlington Free Press.
"The 12-year-old who had been crossing Brett Street when the incident happened was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries. He sadly died this morning."
The boy's father Stuart Swift was killed in a car accident at Carnaby 11 years ago, and in September last year his stepfather Andy Tolley, Katie's husband, died in a motorbike crash at Bempton.
Now a GoFundMe page has been created to help pay for the memorial service of Taylor, one of four siblings.
The online fund, set up by family friend Sherri Miller, has seen over £6,000 donations in the first 36 hours.
Sherri wrote on the page: “As everyone may be aware Katie Jo Tolley lost her little boy which is ever parents worst nightmare, totally devastated for the family to be going through this for the third time now after Taylor’s dad passed in a car accident 11 years ago and his step dad passed away 6 months ago in a motorbike accident.
“I am raising money for Katie to be able to lay her son to rest without the stress of money, all contributions will be much appreciated.”
Taylor was a pupil at Bridlington School. A tribute is being arranged for him. His loved ones are intending to release balloons in his memory from the fields close to his home in Gypsey Road.
According to Mirror, an investigation was launched by Humberside Police. They are now urging anyone with any information to reach them.
"Officers were called to a serious road traffic collision on Brett Street in Bridlington on Friday 15 February following reports that a car had been in collision with a boy," a force spokesman said.
"It happened around 5.30pm near the junction of Britannia Road. The 12-year-old who had been crossing Brett Street when the incident happened was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries. He sadly died this morning."
The spokesman added that the specialist officers are supporting Taylor's family.
