Michelle Obama Shares Touching Message from Her Brother: ‘One of the Best Texts I've Ever Received'
Michelle Obama shared with her followers an emotional message she received from her older brother about the death of her father while continuing her book tour of "Becoming" in London.
The former first lady shared the heartfelt text message from her brother, Craig Robinson, through her Instagram account.
Michelle posted a screenshot of her brother's message and wrote in the title of the image "I'm traveling in Europe right now for my #IAmBecoming tour and my brother just sent me one of the best text messages I've received."
Robinson's message began with the following words: "'As I sit listening to the words of your book for the third time albeit this time by audiobook, it occurred to me that I haven't thanked you for all your memories."
Apparently, Robinson sent the message because he had been moved by one of the most difficult moments they had to face as a family: "As I am the one who is supposed to remember everything, I realized that I have blocked everything related with dad's death."
This is how the former first lady's brother described him: "I was here crying and laughing at the sadness of the story and the comfort of your voice, all I can think about is how much I love my little sister. Thank you," Robinson wrote.
During an appearance she made in London on Sunday, Michelle responded to her brother's message by recalling all the effort his father, Fraser C. Robinson III, made for them: "He gave us everything," said the wife of the former president of the United States.
"The laughs and lessons, the hugs, the heartache from losing him—they’re all still there with me, every minute. Each of us has our own perspectives and emotions; our own journeys in the moment and in the years since."
Michelle continued explaining the importance of communication and closeness within the family: "And that’s why it’s so important to share our stories with each other—not just to remember, but to connect. Even an ocean away. Love you, big brother."
The memoirs written by Mrs. Obama, “Becoming”, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide since its launch in November 2018.
Last week, Michelle also shared pictures of her and her brother playing baseball when they were children to celebrate National Siblings Day.
Few people know about the big role that Michelle’s brother played in her relationship with Barack Obama when they started dating.
The couple meet when they were college students at Princeton and before she got into a more serious relationship with Barack, she asked her brother to invite him to play basketball and tell her his impression of him.
There´s no need to say that Craig did what his little sister told him and that the result was that he approved him, “I was able to get back to her and say, ‘He seems like a pretty good guy.’ The best thing about it I told her is he didn’t just pass me the ball because he was dating my sister.”
