Time’s magazine released its yearly list of ‘the world’s most influential people” last Wednesday morning, which includes write-ups by their colleagues, friends, and different personalities. This year’s list had House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who was praised by Hillary Clinton.

The former secretary of state and the first female presidential nominee for a major party wrote about Pelosi’s efforts during the 2018 midterm campaign for the Democrats which resulted to a Congress with the youngest members the state has seen.

Clinton also mentioned Pelosi’s leadership and competence which prompted the first major bill for gun-safety to be passed and the continues battle of Democrats for affordable health care, reproductive rights, and paid family leave.

Pelosi made history when she became the first female speaker of the House in 2007, working closely with former President Bill Clinton during his term as president. She backed Clinton in the 2016 primary and supported Barack Obama in 2008.

“When it comes to getting the job done, more often than not, it takes a woman.”

In another article about Pelosi, Cecile Richards, a former staffer of Pelosi and outgoing president of Planned Parenthood, described about the leadership Pelosi has displayed, leading to a breakthrough in women’s equity and opportunity.

The extensive work done to fight for equality in gender treatment, highlighting insurance rates and preventive services for women, has been exemplified by Pelosi throughout her time serving America.

The two write-up's showed that Pelosi is an influential woman who has done numerous things for America. Towards the end of her column, Clinton acknowledged Pelosi’s ability to get the job done and standing her ground for the millions of Americans she defends.

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi is living proof that when it comes to getting the job done, more often than not, it takes a woman,” she wrote.

Pelosi’s political journey was set even before she was born. She comes from a family of political servants; thus her path towards politics in the Democratic party did not take anyone by surprise.

Her father, Tommy D’Alesandro, was a congressman and mayor of Baltimore, which her brother took over becoming mayor. Under her father’s influence, Pelosi grew accustomed to Democratic knowledge, hence her long-standing support for the party.

In her time working in the government, Pelosi has proved herself to be a great public servant, having raised the most funds among other congressional Democrats. She has shown and achieved outstanding success in her field in politics and remains to be faithful to her beliefs, allowing her to be worthy of being in the “Times” list.
