‘Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom’ Host Jim Fowler Dies at 89

Zoologist and host of the Emmy Award-winning TV show “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” Jim Fowler passed away at his Connecticut home. He was 89 years old.

One of the most memorable gigs he got during his heyday was as the co-host of the previously mentioned show next to Marlin Perkins.

Fowler attracted the attention of the audience due to the dangerous situations involving animals he would often get into. He would do anything from hanging out of a helicopter, bluffing a herd of elephants, fighting an anaconda, and so on.

Apart from that, the naturalist and wildlife expert appeared in more than 100 episodes of the “Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.” Fowler also worked as a wildlife correspondent for NBC’s “Today Show.”

Members of his family released a statement informing people about Fowler’s death. It read:

“We are sad, however, that Uncle Jim died on May 8 at 2 a.m. in his own bed with his wife, our Aunt Betsey, beside him. We are glad to have honored him on the farm just a month ago.”

His family made clear that donations, which should be earmarked for the “Jim Fowler Experience,” could be made through Chehaw Park (Albany, Georgia).
