In memory of his late sister, T.I. established a scholarship fund and awarded $25,000 to a single mother to sponsor her education during a show honoring women.
T.I.’s loss is someone else’s gain.
Just a few months after the death of his sister, Precious Chapman, T.I. is celebrating her memory through an act of charity.
A SPECIAL TRIBUTE
While taping for VH1’s “Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Mama” where he paid tribute to his sister, the rapper surprised a student with a scholarship.
T.I. presented junior student of Philander Smith College in Arkansas, Tierani Scott with $25,000 to pay for her education as part of the Precious Chapman Scholarship Fund he launched that night.
“My sister Precious was a single mother, who worked to make life better for her children and everyone she encountered.”
Tierani is a single mother just like Precious and she’s also the president of her class and founder of Queen Women’s Empowerment Organization, making her the perfect candidate to sponsor. She is also academically motivated and aiming for a sociology degree. T.I. hopes her scholarship would lead her to do great things.
The 66-year-old was very close to T.I. who mourned her death through several social media tributes.
In his speech, T.I. lauded his sister’s traits as a mother.
“My sister Precious was a single mother, who worked to make life better for her children and everyone she encountered.”
He went on to say that in her name and in the spirit of her sister’s legacy, the scholarship fund was born in partnership with VH1.
Precious died in February due to an asthma attack after figuring in a car crash. The 66-year-old was very close to T.I. who mourned her death through several social media tributes. His latest efforts to preserve her legacy is more proof of how much Precious touched his life, and will hopefully touch more even after her passing.
Along with Precious, T.I. also paid tribute to his mother, Violetta Morgan, his wife Tiny Harris, and her mother Diane Cottle-Pope on the VH1 show which was established as a platform for celebrities to honor special women in their lives. Also joining the annual tribute this year were show host, Anthony Anderson, singer Ashanti, Ciara, and H.E.R.
