Samantha Smith, Nipsey Hussle’s sister is seeking custody of the late singer’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani Asghedom. The Blast obtained documents filed at the Los Angeles County Superior Court that reveal Smith’s intention to continue taking care of Emani in light of her brother’s death.

Smith just wants to “ensure continued stability” and keep Emani’s close ties with her paternal family.

Smith says she’d been a constant presence in Emani’s life. Smith lived with Hussle and Emani from 2014 to 2015 and would maintain contact with the child even after she left the home.

According to the documents filed, Smith just wants to “ensure continued stability” and keep Emani’s close ties with her paternal family. Smith has the support of her brother, Samiel Asghedom as well as her father, Dawit Asghedom whose signature appears in the documents.

Hussle and Emani’s mother, Tanisha Foster, were granted joint custody of their daughter in 2013 and agreed that Foster would have Emani on weekdays while Hussle took care of her during the weekends. But Smith maintains it was Hussle who eventually became Emani’s primary caregiver because the 10-year-old spent most of the time with him.

A court ruling is scheduled on May 14 and the Department of Children and Family Services in Los Angeles is reportedly making an appearance to assist in the decision-making process.

Meanwhile, Foster expressed her intention to gain custody of Emani now that Hussle is gone. It’s unclear if her daughter has been under her full custody since Hussle’s death.

Hussle’s mother, Angelique Smith, has also received an invitation to appear in court to help determine whose guardianship is best for Emani.

While Emani’s custody has yet to be determined, Hussle’s son, 2-year-old Kross Aghedom is in the full care of his mother, Lauren London who was Hussle’s longtime girlfriend. Kross’s future is reportedly secure with a trust fund set for him as well as his sister Emani.

News of the trust fund emerged when fans and celebrities began raising money for the children. Hussle’s family clarified that there was no need to worry because the children’s father made sure they were taken cared of financially.
