Fishermen's tales can never be trusted. The fish in their imagination is always somehow bigger than the one on the hook. And even photographs can be photoshopped nowadays to confuse matters even more. But what about the fish in the following joke?

One day many years ago, a fisherman's wife blessed her husband with twin sons. They loved their children very much, but couldn't think of what to name them.

Finally, after several days, the fisherman said, "Let's not decide on names right now. If we wait a little while, the names will simply occur to us."

After several weeks had passed, the fisherman and his wife noticed a peculiar fact. Whenever they were left alone, one of the boys would turn towards the sea, while the other boy would face inland.

It didn't matter which way the parents positioned the children, the same child always faced the same direction.

"Let's call the boys Towards and Away," suggested the fisherman. Unusual though the names were, his wife agreed, and from that point on, that's how the boys were known.

Years passed by and the lads grew tall and strong. The day came when the aging fisherman said to his sons, "Boys, it is time that you both learn how to make a living from the sea."

They provisioned their father's boat, said their goodbyes, and set sail for a three-month voyage out at sea.

The three months passed quickly for the fisherman's wife, yet the boat did not return. Another three months passed by in agony, and still, no ship was spotted on the horizon.

The woman was devastated, fearing the worst when after three whole years had passed, the grieving woman saw a lone man walking towards her house.

She recognized him as her husband and excitedly called out:

"My goodness! You're alive!! What has happened to my darling boys?"

The ragged fisherman began to tell his story: "We were just barely one day out to sea when Towards hooked a huge fish. Towards fought long and hard, but the fish was more than his equal," the fisherman's sad tale continued.

"For a whole week, they wrestled upon the waves without either of them letting up. Eventually, the great fish started to win the battle, and Towards was pulled over the side of our boat. He was swallowed whole, and we never saw either of them again."

Choking back her tears at the loss of one of her precious sons, the woman cried: "Oh dear, that must have been terrible! What a huge fish that was to swallow Towards like that!!"

"Yes, it was," the fisherman nodded sadly,

"But you should have seen the one that got Away...."

I was not expecting that ending, were you? Share this fisherman's tale with your friends and see if any of them guessed the punchline.

While that fisherman's story was just a tall tale, one fisherman has a crazy story to tell and people can't disbelieve him because he has the pictures to prove it.

A man fishing off Current Island in the Bahamas got more than he bargained for when a shark bit his boat engine.

Lucky for him, the fisherman caught the whole encounter on video. James Munroe was happily fishing for barracuda when a lemon shark took his bait instead.

The fisherman from Eleuthera was about to release the big fish when the shark decided stubbornly bite off more than it could chew.

The shark grabbed hold of Munroe's boat engine and appeared to give him a wide, toothy grin. Nothing would dissuade the toothy stowaway. If that's not the stuff of nightmares, I don't know what is!
