Matt Lauer Enjoys a Boat Trip with Kids as Wife Annette Roque Officially Files for Divorce
Matt Lauer decided to take a short trip on a boat with his children and enjoy the evening away from the scandals and divorce.
Annette Roque, 52, submitted the divorce papers in Suffolk County, New York, on Tuesday, as Lucian Chalfen, director of public information for the New York State Unified Court System confirmed.
The couple has been married for about 20 years and shares three children: son Jack, 18, daughter Romy, 15, and son Thijs, 12. On Wednesday, Roque’s attorney John Teitler told that the matter has been settled.
Roque alleged that the seemingly quiet Lauer often criticized her parenting style and but later acted with "extreme anger and hostility", putting her mental and physical well-being at risk. That’s the reason she filed to divorce Lauer in 2006. She withdrew her claims just three weeks after.
Lauer, 61, was fired by NBC in November 2017 after multiple sexual misconduct claims. They went through difficult times while assimilating the news, the reactions of the people around them and what they meant to them as a couple.
On April 2018, a source revealed that the couple was preparing for divorce after 20 years of marriage. However, Lauer and Roque are expected to share custody of their children.
In these circumstances, Lauer has chosen to step back and grant Roque what she requests in the dissolution agreement of their union, including an amount of approximately $20 million in assets.
In the photographs shared by the press, Lauer looks calm as he commands the boat in which he goes for a shot adventure with two of his children and a friend of them. The boys are relaxed enjoying the exit to the sea, sitting in the bow of the boat.
While on land, Roque was photographed while checking his cell phone, with a worried and somewhat distracted expression. The couple met on a blind date in 1998 after Lauer's separation from his first wife.
At first, it was said that the couple did not want to get a divorce and that they were working together to overcome the situation. However, Lauer publicly acknowledged his infidelity which put more pressure on the relationship issues.
Although he has refused to comment and has remained silent to protect his family from shame, his wife has remained burdened with the humiliation that this situation entails and surely over time this humiliation has been transformed into anger.
So this July 9, almost two years after the start of this scandal with catastrophic consequences for Lauer's career, is that divorce papers are finally filed in the court. Some followers have commented that the complete procedure would be ready in a few months.
