Yet another contestant of a competition series was left hurt by a blunt comment of Simon Cowell. 13-year-old Charlotte Summers was left in tears after giving her all at the “America’s Got Talent” second night of the quarter-finals.

"A TERRIBLE SONG CHOICE"

Summers performed an outstanding cover of Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever,” which became a hit after being used in the James Bond film. However, the judges didn’t think that her song of choice was fit for her personality.

“That was a terrible, terrible, terrible song choice,” Cowell said.

The crowd immediately booed at the judge’s criticism, while tears started running down Summers’ face. However, Cowell had more to say than a mere critique of the song. He added:

“I’m really praying that the audience dismisses the song choice, that wasn’t your fault, remembers what a great person you are, what a great singer you are, and how much better we can advise you if you make it through to the next round.”

The Spanish teen previously performed a powerful rendition of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me,” which earned her praises from all the judges including guest judge Jay Leno, who admitted to being “blown away” by the singer.

EMOTIONAL COMMENTS

Social media flooded with heartfelt comments of people sharing their sentiments over the 13-year-old’s performance and the comments she received. Many “felt bad” as well but commended Summers for her brave heart.

“I can’t help but feel bad for a child when they cry on these shows (I’m a person, too), but whoever handed Charlotte that song should be fired,” one comment read.

Cowell, at that time, had no harsh words to say for Summers, even complimenting her “real rawness,” and discreetly saying she has a strong fighting chance to win the competition against Cenicio Bryant, Mackenzie, and the Voices of Service.
