WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Born on May 8, 1964, Gilbert was only nine years of age when she landed a role in “Little House on the Prairie.”

Reportedly, Ed Friendly and Michael Landon, one of the directors on the show, were so impressed by Gilbert's audition that they knew she was “the one” immediately after her screen test. Recalling the iconic audition, Gilbert previously stated:

“I read for him in a room at Paramount Studios. I remember thinking, ‘Oh gosh, he’s really handsome.’ He gave off a different kind of energy than ordinary people.”

In another interview, Gilbert also admitted to having developed huge respect for Landon, who also played the character of her father on the show.

Over the years, the duo shared a special relationship that extended even after the end of the show.
