The announcement of Donald Trump's former press secretary, Sean Spicer participating in the upcoming season "Dancing with the Stars" has been met with backlash from fans, and Val Chmerkovskiy has aired his opinion over the controversy.

During a sit down with PEOPLE, the professional dancer spoke about Spicer being cast on "DWTS." He explained that when he heard the news of Sean's casting, he called his "DWTS" alum brother, Maks Chmerkovskiy saying, "'Yo, Sean Spicer's on the cast!'"

However, he soon realized that it wasn't different than having Ray Lewis, Lamar Odom, Christie Brinkley, and other celebrities on the show.

The 33-year-old said that although he understood why some fans might be upset, the difference among contestants is what truly makes the dance competition unique. In his words:

"The thing that makes our show unique and wild and crazy and entertaining is the fact that it's a collective of all these different people. And you don't have to agree or follow all these people. They're all very different."

He continued saying that as a dance ambassador, one of the things he was proud of was the fact that dance doesn't judge anyone based on their past.

Val, however, made it clear that it wasn't supporting or opposing anyone with his remarks as he genuinely understands the outrage. He said:

"I'm here to say that I understand the backlash; I definitely understand the outrage. But at the same time, you know, there are bigger problems in the world besides Sean Spicer being humiliated doing the cha-cha."

Val isn't the only one who has a word for fans as "DWTS" contestant Karamo Brown has something to say to people who trolled him about the Sean Spicer controversy.

The "Queer Eye" star was heavily criticized for saying he was excited to meet Spicer and have respectful conversations with him, but he had the perfect response for them.

To the user who shamed him for "lending his celebrity to this," Karamo replied, saying:

"First, I have no say who is on the cast and didn't find out till this morning that he is on! But I'll tell you this… I'm excited to sit down w/ him and engage in a respectful conversation. Only way things get better is if we try to educate those who have different POV than us."

Fans don't seem to be getting over Sean Spicer's participation anytime soon!
