Charlize Theron admits she “cast a very wide night” in her search for the two children she adopted and now raises.

The unconventional mom says most people still think that ideal families should have both a mother and a father when many single parents are just as capable of raising children

FINDING THEIR WAY TO HER

The actress opened up about her adoption journey when she sat down with National Public Radio to promote her new film, “Bombshell.”

According to Charlize, she didn’t set any specific criteria because she wanted her future children to find their way to her. She reveals filing in every country that would allow her, a single parent, to adopt. It turned out her two kids destined for her were both from the United States and African American.

Charlize is a mother to 7-year-old, Jackson Theron and 4-year-old daughter, August Theron. She firmly believes they intended for her.

“Everything that I hoped would happen during my adoption process did happen because these two babies were meant to be in my life — and they're my children,” said the South African star during her interview.

She also spoke of the need for people to widen their understanding about what a family looks like. The unconventional mom says most people still think that ideal families should have both a mother and a father when many single parents are just as capable of raising children alone.

ON HER DAUGHTER MARRYING FIVE TIMES

Charlize has also been very vocal about the way she raises her kids and teaching them to explore life’s possibilities. Speaking to Pride Source, she reveals her daughter intends to marry five times – three boys and two girls, before settling for the perfect mate. And she supports the way August thinks.

“I just love that she has the freedom to think that way,” she says.

ON RAISING TWO DAUGHTERS

Meanwhile, Charlize is very supportive of Jackson who, at three years old, came out to her as a girl. She now refers to Jackson as her daughter and in female pronouns.

The celebrity mom even let the world know that she would really appreciate it if they also referred to Jackson the same way. Charlize says it hurts her daughter’s feelings when the press uses the wrong pronouns for her.

Charlize is a strong advocate for children’s rights. In fact, before she became an actress, she did charity work focused on giving impoverished kids a better life. In 2007, she launched The Charlize Theron African Outreach Project that allowed her to touch the lives of hundreds of children.

What an inspiring woman and mother Charlize is for her devotion to raising open-minded children and giving other children a chance for a better life.
