Prince Charles’ Uncle Allegedly Intervened in His and Camilla’s Relationship in the ’70s
Prince Charles and Camilla’s love story became controversial as he was then-married to Princess Diana, and her to another man.
All eyes were on Prince Charles as he had an affair with Camilla while married to Princess Diana with two sons, which eventually became the reason for their divorce.
As depicted in Netflix’s “The Crown,” Charles’ great uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten played a pivotal part in their relationship.

MOUNTBATTEN’S ROLE IN CHARLES’ LIFE
As dramatized in the series, Mountbatten encouraged the prince to maintain and have fun through his entanglement with Camilla, but not wed her.
The probable king followed his uncle’s path and became a naval officer, sailed off to the Caribbean on HMS Minerva in 1973, for eight months.

Charles left without asking Camilla’s hand in marriage; hence, army officer Andrew Parker Bowles stepped in and popped the question.
Many years later, Charles and Camilla would end up together in what the public would assume as cheating.

However, “The Crown” showrunner Peter Morgan says that it was not the case. Charles was only forced to wed Diana even if his heart was with Camilla.
PROFESSIONALS COMMENT ON THE ROYAL’S LIFE
Although the show portrayed Mountbatten as the man who intervened in Charles assignment abroad in connivance with the Queen, author of “The Crown, The Inside Story,” Robert Lacey thinks otherwise.
A survey taken by the British population showed that 67 percent of the sample were not in favor of Camilla having the title of the Queen.

He said:
“It may be that Mountbatten was involved in something like that but certainly not true that he colluded with the Queen Mother. They loathed each other!”
Historian Hugo Vickers wrote on “The Crown Dissected,” about his sentiments which agree that her Majesty and Mountbatten had no empathy for each other.

Although her words were mostly final throughout her reign, the Queen Mother kept an eye on Mountbatten’s meddling. Lacey said:
“It is possible that Mountbatten, and the papers that might confirm that are still not public, acted on family concerns and he would have been the channel to accomplish that. Or it may simply have been that Mountbatten acted off his own bat.”

CAMILLA’S TITLE IN THE FUTURE
Charles is next in line to the throne of British Monarch as the eldest son of the Queen. When he does accept the crown, the Duchess of Cornwall will become Princess Consort.
It will be the first time for the initial title of Queen Consort to be replaced. The change in name between controversial because the change stemmed from the marriage of Charles to Diana.
