Damon Dash Speaks about Aaliyah’s Relationship with R. Kelly

Co-founder of the Roc-A-Fella Records Damon Dash makes shocking revelations about Aaliyah and R-Kelly's relationship on the second part of "Surviving R-Kelly." The former boyfriend of the late singer referred to her as "The Sacrificial Lamb."

It is not news that R-Kelly secretly married late pop singer, Aaliyah at the young age of fifteen. The marriage was apparently illegal because she was underage, and it was allegedly without her parents' consent.

However, not much is known about the details of the marriage between the two, as only a few acquaintances of the couple made public comments on the illegal marriage.

The former boyfriend of the late singer turned this around when he made an appearance on the installments of Lifetime's bombshell investigative docu-series "Surviving R-Kelly part II: The Reckoning."

The distraught producer gave an insight into the impact the marriage had on the late singer. In 1994, the then 27-year-old R-Kelly produced the songstress's fashionable "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" album, and the duo built a bond stronger than friendship from working together.

In August of the same year, the singer got married to Aaliyah, falsifying her age to suit his narrative. The marriage was, however, short-lived as her parents got it annulled six months after.

TMZ obtained an exclusive one-minute clip of producer Damon's interview on the second part of the docu-series ahead of the premiere on January 2. In the clip posted on the publication's website, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder bared it all out on his thoughts about the marriage and the effect it had on his former girlfriend.

"Aaliyah was like the sacrificial lamb for all of that because she didn't deserve none of that," Damon recalled.

The producer revealed that Aaliyah was a kind soul. He added that despite the hurt and regret she had to go through in the marriage, the late singer did not have a bone of resentment in her.

Although she wanted Kelly far away from her because of his misdoings, the songstress still wished him well. Damon recalled that several outlets carried a headline stating that the RnB singer married a child, yet they did nothing to call him to order.

The producer believed that the whole case would have been one where "a stitch in time saves nine" if he was apprehended at that time as other underage girls wouldn't have fallen into his traps.

Damon also shared that the things he learned about the therapy from his former girlfriend pushed him to undergo treatment. The producer claimed the whole thing affected his mental health so much he needed to seek help.

The 52-year-old singer has since been accused of sexual misconduct with several of the accusations pointing towards his encounters with underage girls.

While Damon was talking on how disgusting it was for the singer to be married to an underage girl, the interviewer interrupted him reminding him that Aaliyah was 15 at the time. Damon shot back to the interviewer in anger, he said:

"I don't have to be accurate because I don't care. 15, 13, anything under 18 is disgusting. She was a child."

Damon and Aaliyah dated briefly after her marriage to Kelly. The two were still in a loving relationship when the singer died in a plane crash after concluding a music video shoot.

The 52-year-old singer has since been accused of sexual misconduct with several of the accusations pointing towards his encounters with underage girls.

Last month, R Kelly

to a federal charge accusing him of bribing an Illinois government employee to issue Aaliyah a fake ID so that he could legally marry her, according to multiple outlets.

The new bribery allegations against Kelly stretched on the existing case of sexual misconduct on minors filed against him in the summer of 2019.
