Beyoncé Drove Fans to Tears with Heartfelt Opening Performance at Kobe Bryant's Public Memorial
Fans shared their emotional responses to Beyoncé's opening performance during the celebration of life for Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant at the Staples Center.
During the celebration of life held at the Staples Center for Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant, Beyoncé took the stage for her opening performance.
With a live band, she delivered a tear-jerking performance to a two-song medley of her hits "XO" and "Halo."
Before restarting her song and belting out the lyrics to "XO" she revealed that it was one of Kobe's favorite songs, she shared:
"I'm here because I love Kobe and this was one of his favorite songs, I want you to sing it so loud, they'll hear your love."
For the musical tribute honoring Kobe and his teenage daughter, who died in a helicopter crash on January 26, Beyoncé customized a few of the lyrics to the song to make it more appropriate for the event.
In the song "XO," she replaced the lyrics "crashing into you" with "laughing into you." A fan took notice of the lyric change and praised her for making such a thoughtful performance.

At the memorial, Beyoncé was introduced as a close friend to the family. It is reported, she had known Kobe and his wife Vanessa Bryant since 1999 when he featured in the Destiny's Child video, "Bug-a-Boo."
Fans noted that Beyoncé appeared emotional but fought back her tears and powered through, one fan praised her for her "amazing performance" despite how emotional she was.

After her performance, Vanessa was pictured with her head on Beyoncé's shoulder as she appeared to be consoling her throughout the night.
Fan were all in agreement that she gave a powerful and memorable performance that blew them away. While there a few critics that called her it insincere, one fan came to her defense by praising her for her soulful melody.
lyrics weren't the only thing customized for the event; she was dressed in a yellow suit and with purple accessories, in honor of the 17 seasons Kobe's played for the Lakers.
She also had Kobe and Gianna's names written in crystals on her nails. Jennifer Lopez, who was pictured crying alongside Alex Rodriguez, also had her nails painted in tribute. She opted to have their jersey numbers on her nails.
