Condola Rashad Shares How Being Inspiration for 'Insecure' Character Feels Like
Condola Rashad was surprised to learn that the "Insecure" character with the same name was actually named after her indeed.
In season three of the hit HBO series "Insecure," fans were introduced to Condola, who became Lawrence's love interest. Although this doesn't sit well with the fans, she's become a recurring character.
Although Condola already knew that there was a character with the same name as her, she didn't actually think it was named after her. It was only when the show's creator, Issa Rae, opened up about how the name came about.

HOW IT CAME ABOUT
It turns out, it was inspired by the showrunner Prentice Penny's love for Phylicia's portrayal of Claire Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." Phylicia is Condola's mom, which explains the personal connection between her and the character.
When Prentice Penny was younger, he was dating with the intention to try and find the perfect woman for him. To him, finding his own Claire Huxtable was what he was trying to do.
DATING WITH INTENTION
Likewise, the show's character, Lawrence, is also beginning to date with intention. After thinking about how they should name the character, she realized finding her own Phylicia Rashad would not be ideal. Instead, he'd be looking for his "Condola Rashad."
Fans can expect to see more from Condola on "Insecure," especially after Issa Rae announced that the hit series is set for its fourth season.
HER NAME ORIGINS
As for where her name came from, Condola reveals that it was her grandmother's name that was passed on to her. Ultimately, she embraced it despite using her middle name Phylea since she was younger.
"It's my paternal grandmother's name. As a professional artist, I knew that [Phylea] was going to be very close to Phylicia; it was gon' be a little too confusing. So I said now is the perfect time."
Fans can expect to see more from Condola on "Insecure," especially after Issa Rae announced that the hit series is set for its fourth season. As Lawrence is now in it for the long run, it'll be interesting for fans to see how their relationship plays out.
