According to reports, the pair had rented a boat on Wednesday at Lake Piru in Los Angeles. However, someone found their boat on the bay, with only Josey inside.

The 4-year-old boy was unharmed, but he did say that his mother hadn’t returned from swimming. A few days after that, Naya Rivera was confirmed dead.

Rivera’s disappearance sent social media into a frenzy, with many sending their thoughts and prayers to her family. With the news grabbing so many headlines, it’s only worth digging into the actress's life.

Born Naya Marie Rivera, the 33-year-old is a Santa Clara, California native who landed her career from a young age.

By the time she was four, she had already done some modeling jobs, and she earned her big acting break on “The Royal Family” — a CBS sitcom created by Eddie Murphy.

Sadly, the series didn’t last too long, and CBS canceled it after three seasons. On her early acting start, she once said: “...When she [Rivera's mom] had me then, at 21, she just decided that I should go ahead and try my hand at it."

Despite the cancellation of "The Royal Family," it was evident that Rivera was a budding star ready to take on the world.

She landed roles on several other shows, including “Family Matters,” “CSI: Miami,” and “The Bernie Mac Show.” Slowly and steadily, she was building her resume.

Rivera’s most prominent role to date will most likely be on FOX hit series “Glee.” She played Santana Lopez, a fiery lesbian cheerleader.

During her time on "Glee," Rivera got married to Ryan Dorsey, another actor. Sadly, the pair called it quite in 2016 after just over two years of marriage. At the time, the couple said:

“Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share together...”

Rivera and Dorsey’s romance started shortly after she ended her engagement to rapper Big Sean. The pair met and tied the knot just three months after the previous engagement ended.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be for them. Rivera had filed the divorce papers, asking for primary custody of Josey and visitation rights for Dorsey.

It wasn’t the first time that they dated. Per reports, they had been together in 2010, but they ended things as Rivera wanted to focus on her career.
