Alex Trebek's Wife, Jean, Noticed Cancer Symptom in Her Husband Right before His Diagnosis

In an article for “Guideposts,” Jean Trebek opened up about how she’d noticed that her husband, Alex Trebek, might have cancer right before he received his official diagnosis.

In a piece she wrote for the “Guideposts” magazine, Jean Trebek revealed how she’d picked up on a cancer symptom in her husband, Alex Trebek. She recalled how in December 2018, she and her family took a trip to Israel.

Jean, Alex, and their son Matthew and daughter Emily, visited one of the sites during their stay. One night, after eating dinner, the star’s wife noticed from across the table that Alex didn’t seem ok.

THE TELLTALE SIGN

She recalled how she’d seen that his “coloring seemed off” and asked him if he felt fine. Alex, who is not someone who likes complaining, assured her he was fine.

However, he did confess to having stomach pains. His wife brushed them off, for the moment, by assuming his problem was due to something he ate in the different country.

GETTING SOME TESTS DONE

Later, when they were back home in California, Jean noticed that things weren’t okay with the “Jeopardy!” host. He had tests done at his doctor and the couple thought nothing of it as they took a trip to New York.

While in the city, they received a call from Alex’s doctor at the hotel they were staying in. The doctor requested to see the television show host as soon as they got back.

CUTTING THE TRIP SHORT

The phone call left the couple with some concerns and they ended up cutting their trip short. In California, he went to the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles for a CT scan.

Within hours a doctor called back and they went in and got the devastating news. The doctor revealed how the stage four pancreatic cancer had a “tumor that had spread to the soft lining of his stomach.”

ALEX’S DIAGNOSIS

That’s how the pair officially discovered his diagnosis. When Jean noticed that Alex’s complexion was off, that was a telltale sign of pancreatic cancer.

JAUNDICE

Jaundice or the yellowing of the skin or the white area of the eyes is one of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer. The longtime game show host revealed his cancer diagnosis in March 2019.
