Alison Sweeney Will Return to 'Days of Our Lives' after Leaving Show as Full-Time Cast in 2014
In 2014, actress Alison Sweeney shocked her fans when she left “Days of Our Lives.” Her fans will be thrilled to find out that reports currently state that she’s finally coming back!
According to “Deadline,” Alison Sweeney, who played Sami Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” is set to return to the soap opera. The show’s producer Corday Productions revealed that the actress will return in September 2020 when they continue with filming.
Sweeney left the soap opera in 2014 after being a full-time cast member for 21 years. She explained her reasons for departure at the time.

WHY SHE LEFT THE SHOW
The star revealed how she’d been starring in the series since she was 16. The actress revealed how she’d only had a two-week vacation in all her time on the show.
She also shared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” that she wanted to spend more time with her children who were 5 and 9 at the time. Last August, in an interview with “Closer Weekly,” the star confessed to how her world revolved around her teenage son, Benjamin, and daughter, Megan.
PARENTHOOD IS REWARDING
She admitted how seeing her children flourish was the most rewarding part of parenthood. Sweeney shares the two children with her husband David Sanov.
The show's executive producer is pleased to have Sweeney back.
With regards to starring on the soap opera, since 2017, the star has been featuring on the longtime running series for short spells of time. Now she’s set to return again on a full-time basis as one of the cast members.
HER MOST RECENT APPEARANCE
Her most recent scene on the show was done before production had to shut down due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. “Days of Our Lives’” current episodes began airing in the middle of July 2020.
They are expected to end in late September 2020. Sweeney will star on the soap opera starting later in the year and through 2021.
EP’S TAKE ON ALISON’S RETURN
The series Executive Producer (EP) Ken Corday released a statement about the actress’s return. Speaking fondly about her he said:
“It is always a beautiful day in Salem when we get to welcome Alison Sweeney back to the canvas.”
SWEENEY’S ROLE
Corday also noted how her character was “an integral part of our show’s history.” The executive producer shared how excited they were that she was coming back home.
HER ACCOLADES
Sweeney had been a steady feature on the show since 1993. She won the Special Fan Emmy Award for America’s Favorite Villain in 2002.
BEING NOMINATED
In 2015, her role earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. At the beginning of the year, “Days of Our Lives” was renewed by NBC for its 56th season.
