Interabled YouTubers Shane Burcaw and Hannah Aylward Discuss Having Kids in the Future

Following their recent marriage, interabled YouTube couple Shane Burcaw and Hannah Aylward opened up about their plans for kids in the future.

Interabled YouTubers Shane Burcaw and Hannah Aylward have only just gotten married, but it seems that they are already looking at what the future may hold for them.

In a recent interview, the newlyweds opened up about their plans for the possible future and how they plan to fit kids into it. Aylward revealed that they were definitely interested in having children, but they were not ready yet.

The husband and wife are still taking their time to enjoy life as newlyweds and do not want to rush into having kids. Burcaw interjected and admitted that their minds were a little shaky on the subject.

One moment they were sure they wanted to wait, the next, they wanted to have kids right away, and the next would come with the sudden realization of why on earth they would think they were ready.

Shane and I get a lot of questions from people asking our opinion on various words that are used to refer to disabled people. Two of the most common ones we get asked about are “special needs” and “differently abled.” Like many other disability activists, we see these words as trying to make disability more palatable. They skirt around the word, framing it more “positively,” as if the word “disability” is a bad one.⁣ ⁣ Our society never fails to frame disability negatively, and it translates into the words we use. The term “wheelchair bound” is a great example of how society has taken a great device that allows millions of people to move around, and turned it into a bad thing by attaching the word “bound” to it. There are countless more phrases and words like this one, so Shane and I just posted a video trying to address some of them! If you’ve ever wondered what the origin of the word “handicap” is, or whether or not Shane thinks he has “overcome” his disability, this video is for you! The link is in my bio.

Burcaw and Aylward share their incredible story with the world under the YouTube channel name, “Squirmy and Grubs,” and have amassed over seven hundred thousand subscribers since they began.

The couple exchanged vows on September 4, in a quiet, intimate, pandemic wedding, over Zoom, with friends and families cheering for them from miles away.

Burcaw and his doting wife had been dating for four years and documenting their journey together on their YouTube channel for all to see and learn from.

Burcaw was born with a genetic disorder called spinal muscular atrophy.

Their wedding was a pleasant surprise for the many who were rooting for them, and a shock to the hateful internet trolls who tried to tear them down. Days after their nuptials, the newly-turned wife took to Instagram to gush about her wedding. She wrote:

“On Friday, September 4th, I married the love of my life. It wasn’t the big gathering we had always planned on having, but it was perfect.”

Aylward added that she and Burcaw were beyond anxious to be able to celebrate in person with their friends and family, but till then, they were still husband and wife.

Burcaw, a proud and happy husband, also shared a photo from their wedding accompanied by his own heartfelt Instagram post about their nuptials

The newly-turned husband wrote that his wedding to his beautiful wife was what made him smile that week. The small wedding conducted over Zoom was not what they initially imagined, but nonetheless, it was a beautiful moment filled with their love for each other.

Burcaw was born with a genetic disorder called spinal muscular atrophy, and people on the internet believed that he and Aylward could not be intimate.

In their very revealing video, the couple said that the idea that disabled people could not be intimate with other people is incorrect. It is very possible, and with that, so is having kids. When they are ready, their supporters will be there to root for them.
