Robert Redford is dealing with the devastation of losing another child and son, James Redford. On Friday, news broke that the 58-year-old lost his battle with cancer that began late last year.

“James died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many,” Kyle wrote. “As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together.”

HIS HEALTH STRUGGLES

James, who graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in literature, had health problems since his childhood. In 1993, he received two liver transplants, which led to him founding the James Redford Institute of Transplant Awareness.

Of the four children the actor shares with his ex-wife, Lola Van Wagenen only two are still alive.

However, last year, James required a liver transplant, and while awaiting the life-saving surgery, doctors discovered bile-duct cancer in his liver, which eventually led to his passing.

ROBERT'S CHILDREN

Tragically, James is not the only child Robert Redford had lost. Of the four children the actor shares with his ex-wife, Lola Van Wagenen, only two are still alive. Robert and Lola married in 1958 and split in 1985.

Lola gave birth to their first child and son, Scott, in 1959. Sadly, he passed two months later. The couple then welcomed their second child, Shauna, the following year. She didn't follow in her famous father's footsteps but instead became a painter.

The only regret Robert later had, is that he never thanked her for always standing by him.

In 1962, James came into the world, while their youngest, Amy, wasn't born until eight years later in 1970. She did follow her father into the entertainment industry and split her talents between acting, directing, and being a producer.

HE IS NOW RETIRED

After a successful acting career that spanned decades, Robert Redford retired from the entertainment industry in 2018. Since then, he focused more on his other love in life - nature.

While spending quality time with his family, the actor, who turned 84 last month, now stepped into a quiet life close to nature on his ranch in Utah where he keeps his beloved horses.
