Since the new "Grey's Anatomy" season started, fans have been treated to the pleasant surprise of old cast returning to the show. Ellen Pompeo just added to the curiosity of the show's viewers with her latest Twitter post.

The actress left fans wondering if Katherine Heigl is returning to the show. It was teased that another person from Meredith's past would be returning to the show, and Pompeo decided to give fans a little something to anticipate.

Fans were wild after seeing the tweet and flooded it with questions about the possibility of Heigl's return and other surprises the show had lined up.

One fan wrote, "Izzie coming back?" Another fan added, "is this a clue about who else might return this season?" A third fan remarked that he could not wait for all the surprises this week.

Heigl did not receive a proper send-off episode like many characters because she did not show up to film it.

After Patrick Dempsey (Meredith's late husband Derek Shepard) made a sensational return to the show amid Meredith's COVID-19 dream, viewers are itching to know the next person the character will see while in her coma.

Fans would have to wait about two weeks before they can clear their doubt in the coming episode due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Heigl GIF comes after Pompeo and Heigl's former "Grey's Anatomy" co-star, Isaiah Washington, publicly called the former out on Twitter earlier this week.

Washington stated that Heigl made some claims against him, which led to him fighting to save his job. Heigl has not publicly addressed these claims, but according to reports, she had previously claimed that Washington had made a homophobic slur on set towards their co-star T.R. Knight.

In another "Grey's Anatomy" related report, showrunner Krista Vernoff revealed that Heigl did not receive a proper send-off episode like many characters because she did not show up to film it.

Heigl portrayed Dr. Izzie Stevens for almost six seasons from 2005 to 2010, and her decision left many fans wondering what must have gone wrong.

Since it aired in 2005, "Grey's Anatomy" which is the longest-running scripted primetime show on ABC, has continued to wow fans with more than 300 episodes spanning over a decade. Fans would have to wait to see if Heigl is the pleasant surprise of the next episode.
