Valerie Bertinelli Gets Candid about Her Grief Following Her Ex-husband Eddie Van Halen's Death

Valerie Bertinelli opened up about dealing with grief months after her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen passed away. The actress recalled the beautiful times she spent with the late singer.

Almost four months after the iconic Eddie Van Halen passed away, his ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli is opening up about how she has been dealing with the grief of losing him in a recent Instagram Live.

In a conversation with therapist Angie Johnsey, the actress got emotional as they discussed the five stages of grief. Bertinelli got candid that life never goes back to normal when a loved one is lost. However, one has to find a way to survive through it.

Bertinelli sympathized with fans who experienced loss due to the ongoing pandemic, revealing that it was necessary to speak about grief. The "Hot In Cleveland" star then got emotional when her ex-husband was brought up.

The "Eruption" crooner was married to Bertinelli 26 years before their split in 2007.

She described the grief she feels as a blessing, revealing it keeps her reminded of the lovely times she spent with the late singer who passed away in October. Bertinelli sweetly recalled good times, saying:

I'll just take my relationship with Ed for the last 40 years — it was a messy relationship. We had some very difficult, very challenging times [...]."

She described the gift of grief, noting that it makes it easier for her to remember the good times and not the problematic moments shared with the late loved one. The 60-year-old also spoke about her son, whom she shared with the late Eddie.

Bertinelli expressed hope that 29-year-old Wolfgang would remember only the best of her and not her worst when it is her time to go. The television personality concluded, telling fans that she tries to be optimistic amid her grief.

She spoke about grief being a lesson and opened up about ways it has taught her. Eddie died on October 6 after a long battle with cancer. The "Eruption" crooner was married to Bertinelli 26 years before they split in 2007.

At the beginning of the year, she opened up about how she and Wolfie have been faring without Eddie, describing it as "rough." She noted that she had gotten closer to her only son, which has made the process bittersweet.

Last month, Bertinelli and Wolfie touched hearts when they commemorated Eddie's 66th posthumous birthday with tributes on social media. The cooking show host shared a screenshot of the text she sent to her ex-husband on his last birthday.

On the other hand, Wolfie shared a series of throwback videos, showing the tight bond he shared with his late father. He revealed in the caption that it has been challenging without the late guitarist here with him.
