The Fortune Has an Heir — But Not an Immediate Owner

Bear is set to inherit $29,007,998 from his father's estate, according to court documents obtained by People, published on June 22.

While the filing names Bear as the sole beneficiary, he will not immediately receive most of the inheritance.

According to the documents, the majority of the funds will remain in a trust until he turns 18, though some money may be used for his benefit before then. The records also reveal who will oversee the estate in the meantime.

Court documents issued on May 1 named singer Cheryl, Bear's mother and Liam's former partner, and attorney Richard Mark Bray as the estate's administrators.

Because Liam died without leaving a will, his estate is being handled under U.K. inheritance laws.

According to the same news outlet, which cited guidance from the U.K. government, estates typically pass to a surviving spouse or, if there is no spouse, to the deceased person's closest blood relatives.

The filing provides one of the clearest pictures yet of what will happen to Liam's assets. At the time the documents were issued, his U.K. estate was valued at approximately $38 million before expenses, with a net value of about $32.2 million.

Liam frequently shared glimpses of fatherhood in interviews, describing his son as an important part of his life despite keeping him largely out of the public eye.

As Liam's only child, Bear Payne is expected to inherit his father's estate under U.K. intestacy rules, making him central to the recent court proceedings.

While much of the attention has focused on Liam's son and the future of his estate, his former girlfriend recently shared a candid personal update.

The Dating Struggle Kate Cassidy Said She Could Not Escape

Speaking in a TikTok video filmed while doing her makeup in a car, Kate opened up about a recent relationship that ended after only a short time. The experience, she said, forced her to confront a challenge she had been carrying since Liam's death.

However, Kate admitted that grief continued to affect her approach to dating.

"Dating after losing somebody that you genuinely thought you were gonna spend the rest of your life with is really tough because I physically look for Liam in every single guy that I meet," she said.

According to Cassidy, she often found herself comparing new relationships to her experience with Liam. She recalled becoming frustrated when a partner behaved differently from what she had come to expect from him.

"There were certain times where I would get so angry with this guy because I physically would be like, 'Oh Liam would do this, so why aren't you doing this?'" Kate said. "Or he would do something, and I would be like, 'Liam would never do that. Why are you doing that?'"

Kate also said the relationship ultimately ended after the man told her they should "go our separate ways." Reflecting on the breakup, she said she felt sad because she does not like losing people and had been excited to see where the connection might lead.

The TikTok was captioned, "sometimes I confuse myself," a phrase that echoed the self-reflection she shared throughout the video. While she reflected on life after Liam's death, legal proceedings connected to the singer's final days continued to unfold.

Why Liam's Case Remains Unfinished Nearly Two Years Later

More than a year and a half after Liam died on October 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, questions surrounding the circumstances of his death have yet to be fully resolved.

Prosecutors said toxicology tests later found alcohol, cocaine, and prescription medication in his system.

According to TMZ on May 7, Buckinghamshire Senior Coroner Crispin Butler said the U.K. inquest into Liam's death remains incomplete because key evidence from Argentina has not yet been fully shared with British authorities.

During a pre-inquest hearing, Butler said no additional evidence had been disclosed through official channels since a previous review in January 2025. He added that investigators are still awaiting reports and witness statements before a final determination can be made.
