POSING WITH HER MAMA

While on the bed covered with a purple blanket, Sidibe donned a black sleeveless top while holding a white cup. Beside her in the photo was Ridley, having a glass of juice.

They both wore bonnets - Sidibe's bonnet was red while Ridley opted for a lighter shade. The actress wrote that Brandon Frankel, her fiancé, was "very excited" to see them wearing bonnets. She added:

Many fans took to the comment section to note that Sidibe and Ridley, a gospel and R&B singer, looked beautiful while spending quality time together.

A user expressed that looking at Sidibe's picture made her miss her mother. One fan noted the beautiful purple blanket and wrote, "Mom can pass for your sister, looking good."

Gabby's mother looked familiar to some as she was a former contestant in "America's Got Talent" in 2010. Ridley, who used to sing on the New York City subways, wowed the judges with Etta James' track "At Last."

MAKING MONEY IN SINGING

Few years after Ridley took the "AGT" stage, Sidibe shared in an interview that her mother was a former teacher. She focused on teaching special education.

She became a busker in the NYC subway because she made more money doing that than teaching. Sidibe recalled her mother would bring her and her brother down the subway while she sang for five hours.

She also went on a weight loss surgery in 2016 because of her developing diabetes.

SIDIBE'S MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLE

Sidibe had grown close to Ridley growing up. She was there for her even in her tough times. The actress shared that she developed depression at a young age.

The "Empire" star's depression had grown into anxiety. During college, Sidibe also suffered from bulimia, an eating disorder which became her defense mechanism.

In her 2017 memoir, "This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare," Sidibe shared that she had her depression and bulimia under control after seeking treatment and therapy.

She also went on a weight loss surgery in 2016 because of her developing diabetes. Now that she's free from her struggles, Sidibe has focused on keeping a healthy lifestyle on her terms.
