Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins made history in not one but two ways at the prestigious Academy Award ceremony. He was named the oldest nominee in the Best Actor category while also bagging the award this year.

However, many Hollywood fans were not too impressed by the verdict of the award show, as they vied for fellow Best Actor nominee Chadwick Boseman.

The outline on the official Oscars website listed Hopkins' name as the winner in the Actor in a Leading Role category for his role in "The Father." The other nominees were Riz Ahmed, Gary Oldman, and Steven Yeun.

The late "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman was also nominated in the category for his role in "Ma Rainey's Balck Bottom." Fans took to their Twitter timelines to air their thoughts.

One person shared several photos of Boseman from some of his movie roles, adding that they were upset that the actor did not win an Academy Award.

Another person termed the situation as horrible, adding that the movie star was snubbed posthumously. A third person echoed this, noting that they genuinely hoped that Boseman would receive a posthumous award.

More uproar from unhappy fans relayed that the Oscars arrangement of events was switched, placing the Lead Actor category as the last to be announced. Many thought it was done to honor Boseman, only for the accolade to go to another star.

Hopkins shared his acceptance speech on Monday morning, April 26, noting his gratitude and using the medium to pay Boseman a tribute. He expressed his appreciation, adding that he did not expect to emerge the winner.

Being the oldest to make history in an award ceremony is not a new feat for the 83-year-old Hopkins. He was the recipient of the Best Leading Actor for "The Father" at the BAFTA Awards.

He was also tagged the oldest actor in history to win the title. Just like he was absent at the Oscars, Hopkins could not make it to the BAFTA awards virtual ceremony but made sure to send a hearty acceptance speech.

The Oscars 2021 Memoriam service was introduced with a soulful message from Angela Bassett, while stars like Boseman, Cicely Tyson, Kelly Preston, and Kirk Douglas were duly honored.
