Spice Girls Broke up over 20 Years Ago — Look inside Their Personal Lives Today

The Spice Girls dominated the music industry in the 90s and became nothing short of icons. Everything fell to pieces when the first member left, though.

In May 1998, after releasing two highly successful albums – “Spice” in 1996 and “Spiceworld” in 1997 – Geri Halliwell, also known as Ginger Spice, announced she was leaving the Spice Girls to pursue a solo career.

Less than three years later, about a month after releasing their third album, “Forever,” the group went on an indefinite hiatus. It’s been a little over two decades since that happened, and a lot has happened in their lives.

MELANIE BROWN

In Mel B’s case, her dating life has never ceased to make headlines. She is currently raising three daughters born to three different men – Phoenix to Jimmy Gulzar, Angel to Eddie Murphy, and Madison to Stephen Belafonte.

She once confessed her children were made with a lot of love in solid relationships, but things didn’t end well with Belafonte. The former couple tied the knot in 2007 and parted ways in 2017. Since then, they’ve been fighting.

Mel B claimed he abused her during their time together and even obtained a temporary restraining order against him. On the other hand, Belafonte denied her allegations and requested full custody of their daughter in 2020.

Belafonte, a film producer, said Mel B basically abandoned Madison after moving to the UK and wanted her to have supervised visitation rights only in Los Angeles.

GERI HALLIWELL

Ginger Spice, the first member of the Spice Girls to leave, has had a far less dramatic life. Geri Halliwell and her husband, Red Bull Racing F1’s Team Principal Christian Horner, began dating in March 2014.

The couple tied the knot on May 15, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church in England. After saying “I do,” Halliwell became a stepmother to Olivia, Horner’s daughter from a previous relationship.

Horner and Halliwell enlarged their family in January 2017 when Montague was born. Including her daughter from a previous relationship, Geri Halliwell is raising three children.

In May 2021, the couple celebrated their sixth anniversary, and judging by Halliwell’s Instagram account, they went on a romantic date night.

EMMA BUNTON

Another Spice Girl with a relatively calm life is Emma Bunton. She has been in a relationship with the same man, Jade Jones, for a little over two decades.

Jones and Bunton began dating in 1998 but parted ways a year later. Between 1999 and 2000, former soccer player Rio Ferdinand was Emma Bunton’s partner.

Eventually, the singer found her way back to Jones in November 2000 but separated again in 2002. They reconciled two years later, welcomed their first child in August 2007, and their second in May 2011.

Emma Bunton’s kids and Jade Jones, whom she's been engaged with since 2011, are her priority. She frequently posts photos and videos of them on social media, and they look adorable together.

Melanie C’s life has also been in the spotlight a few times. She has been open about dealing with anorexia and binge-eating issues following a fight with Victoria Beckham in 1996.

Apart from that, Melanie C and Thomas Starr, who had been dating since 2002, announced their separation in 2012. They share a daughter, Scarlet, whom the singer credited for giving her the much-needed strength to leave Starr.

Neither Melanie C nor her daughter was happy with Starr, she revealed, and it was not the environment she wanted Scarlet to grow up in. Her daughter made her feel “brave” enough to leave Starr.

In 2014, the Spice Girls songstress began dating Joe Marshall, who “challenges,” respects, and loves her. Melanie C even said she’d never been in a relationship where someone “has got my back.”

VICTORIA BECKHAM

Victoria Beckham and her husband, David Beckham, have been one of the most talented and famous couples of the last couple of decades. They met during a charity soccer game in Manchester in 1997.

They got engaged a year later, married in 1999, and began having children right away. Born in March 1999, their son Brooklyn played soccer for ten years before falling in love with photography.

Romeo joined the family in September 2002, but unlike his older brother, he didn’t play soccer. Instead, he’s following in Victoria’s footsteps and is in the fashion industry.

Cruz, born in February 2005, is David and Victoria Beckham’s youngest son. While he is still relatively young, he looks a lot like his famous dad with each passing year.

The couple’s only daughter is Harper, who joined the brood in July 2011. The young girl is studying at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London, so she’s very likely to be an entertainer in the future.

It’s been 20 years since the Spice Girls broke up, but they are still iconic in pop culture, and the fact that their “Spice World – 2019 Tour” was successful proves it.
