Story of the Day: A Man and His Dog Were Walking along a Road

A man and his dog took a long walk, and after a while, the man realized they were both dead. His adventure brought him to some exciting discovery.

One day, a man and his dog were taking an evening stroll along the road. The man was having a good time enjoying the beautiful view on the road when he suddenly realized he was dead.

He recalled that he had died, and the dog walking beside him died years before he did. He wondered within himself where the road was leading them. After walking for some time, they arrived at a high white stone wall that looked like fine marble. It was just on one side of the road.

They took a glance at the top of a long hill and saw that it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. The man approached, stood before it and saw a beautiful gate in the arch that looked like the mother-of-pearl.

The street that led to the gate seemed to be made of pure gold, so the man and his dog walked to the gate, and as they got closer, they saw a man sitting at a desk. He got to the man and said:

"Excuse me, where are we?"

The man replied that they were in heaven. Excited, the traveler asked if there was water available. The man at the desk told him that there was water and asked him to get into the gate and some cold water would be brought to him.

The man at the desk waved his hand, and the gate began to open. The traveler then asked if his dog could come along with him, but he was told that pets were not allowed.

The traveler thought a bit and decided to continue on the road he had been walking on with his dog. After walking for a while, he saw another hill.

He got to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. The farm had no fence, and anyone could walk into it. As he got close, he saw a man standing close to a tree holding a book. He said to the man:

"Excuse me, do you have any water?"

The man told him there was a pump inside and invited him in. The traveler asked if his dog could come in, and the man said there was a bowl for the dog as well.

When they went in, they saw an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler drank some water and gave some to his dog. When they returned to the man, he asked him what the place was called and then said it was heaven.

Confused, the traveler asked about the place with gold and pearly gates, and the man replied that it was hell. The traveler asked the man how he felt about hell using their name and the man said:

"We're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."
