Texas mom Billie Dunn is elated after her ex-boyfriend is charged with murder for killing her young daughter 11 years ago. She revealed she was not alerted by the police on the arrest and read up about it on online.

"First and foremost, I'm so elated, and I'm so relieved that it's finally happened," Dunn told BigCountryHomepage.com in an exclusive phone interview.

She says she has been praying for the verdict since the day her daughter Hailey was found in March 2013. “Every day, every night since we’ve gotten her back, that’s been our big task, that’s what we’ve wanted to see,” Dunn said.

Even though it came as a surprise that she was not informed by the police and had to hear about the judgment from another source, Dunn says the suspect was not much of a surprise to her.

She admitted although it was Shawn Adkins, she would have hoped that it was not him responsible because she stayed with him after Hailey went missing.

Dunn shared she is thankful to God that the perpetrator is now in custody and is "going to pay for what he did here on Earth.”

The 13-year-old victim was reported missing on December 28, 2010 and her remains were found more than two years later. According to online jail records, Adkins was arrested on Monday.

He is being held on a $2 million bond. The police revealed the suspect told them that the cheerleader was spending the night at a friend’s house.

However, the friend later disclosed she never planned to have Hailey over. The teenager’s remains were discovered near Lake J.B Thomas in Scurry County, Texas.

Through the years, Adkins was the only person of interest in the case of Hailey’s disappearance. Back in 2019, Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, shared he felt left in the dark and said:

He then worked with a private investigator, Erica Morse, to investigate Adkins. The case was classified as high-profile - in addition Adkins had ties to New Mexico.

Morse learned Adkins moved around after Hailey went missing. She revealed that one of his stops was Lovington, New Mexico, between 2012 and 2013. Morse further disclosed the suspect was known for hitting on or harassing underage girls.
