Willie Nelson's Son Sounds Just like Dad While Singing His Iconic Song – Meet Lukas Nelson
During an annual cruise a couple of years ago, Willie Nelson’s son Lukas sounded just like his father when he sang "Always on My Mind." The music captivated not just those onboard, but also those who saw footage of him singing.
The video was recorded aboard the 19th Sandy Beaches Cruise on February 10, 2013, during a late-night jam session that showcased Lukas’ talent. If you closed your eyes, you could even think you were listening to his father, Willie.
From the moment the piano player plays the first note, it draws you in and captures your attention. When Lukas delivers his rendition to his dad’s classic hit with talent and perfection, it will leave you with goosebumps.
Much like his father, Lukas didn’t finish college and dropped out to pursue a music career. At age 11, he wrote his first song, and by the time he was 13 years old, he began playing rhythm guitar with his dad’s band.
In 2008, Lukas started a rock band in California with Anthony LoGerfo, whom he met at college before dropping out, named Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real. They then began touring with Willie as his opening act.
The release of their first album followed in 2010. Later on, in 2015 they collaborated with Neil Young just ahead of the release of their latest album "Something Real" in March 2016. The band released a total of six albums to date.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Willie Nelson spent time with his sons Lukas and Micah at their ranch in Spicewood, Texas. Of course, they've played a lot of music together, recently drawing a crowd of over 100,000 to watch their live video.
Professionally, Lukas has found even more success in his music career. He and his band starred in "A Star is Born" as Bradley Cooper's fictional band, a blockbuster movie that also stars Lady Gaga.
However, that's not the only impressive thing he's done, as he also collaborated with the "Born This Way" singer to write not one, but several of the film's songs. In a recent interview with Billboard, Lukas revealed that the songs he wrote are reflections of his own life.
To date, Lukas remains close to Lady Gaga, as they consider each other good friends more than anything. In fact, years back, she even provided backup vocals for two of his tracks on his self-titled album.
At the rate he's going, it won't be surprising if the two collaborate for even more powerful tracks, as their close friendship allows them to do just that. Musical talent definitely runs in the Nelson family, and it's exciting to see how else they plan to utilize their talent in the near future.
