Mental health is important as an aspect of human life, and several agencies and organizations have been set up to look after the mental well-being of people.

However, a recent incident in an American Airlines plane has raised questions over how much has been achieved in the fight for stable mental health.

A viral TikTok video showing the moment a man on an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City attempted to get off the plane mid-flight but was resisted by a flight attendant has sparked a debate online.

The clip was shared by TikTok user Dennis Busch alongside the caption, "God bless flight attendants and pilots for what they have to deal with."

The passenger, a 61-year-old man, was seen acting in a concerning manner as he was growling and violently putting on his facemask before getting up to have an argument with the flight attendant.

One of the flight attendants explained to the frantic passenger that the plane was about to land, but the man continued to stand on the aisle before another attendant commanded him to sit down.

Defiantly, the passenger, Timothy Armstrong, continued to argue with the crew members, speaking to them in a berating manner. He was heard making incoherent statements as he walked back to his seat.

The man was later seen sitting on his chair, muttering to himself as though he was talking to another person. He was heard saying:

"Sorry. But that's what they think of America. They think that it is a disgrace."

Later on, police officers could be seen talking to the man, and he was escorted off the plane by the officers who cited public intoxication and disorderly conduct upon landing.

Busch, who shared the video, explained during an interview with KUTV that she was unsure of what was going on in the flight and decided to record it if anything happened.

Some pointed out that Armstrong acted in a way deemed to be racist, but others noted that nothing in the clip pointed to him as racist; instead, concerns were raised over the state of his mental health.

One user suggested the 61-year-old was having a breakdown as he did not show any sign of intoxication, while another said he might have been going through psychosis. The video currently has over 188,300 views and 16,600 comments.
