The Britney Spears conservatorship case has been the focus of many news outlets for a couple of months, but it has been of interest to Britney Spears fans for years.

The Free Britney movement brought widespread attention to the alleged abuse that Britney may have faced while her father was her conservator. As a result, the singer has taken to Twitter to thank her fans.

Jamie held the role of his daughter's conservator since 2008 before the extraordinary development in the ongoing conservatorship case. The Free Britney movement emerged soon after the conservatorship was put in place.

Fortunately for Jamie, fan concerns were not picked up by the media in the first few years of the Free Britney movement. However, the movement surged in popularity in 2019 after allegations spread on social media.

Fans created petitions against the conservatorship, which were able to get over a hundred thousand signatures. Many celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Ariel Winter even publicly supported the movement during its resurgence.

While the Free Britney movement picked up, things began looking worse for Jamie, who was painted as a villain. The Spears patriarch even spoke out against the movement last year, alluding to it as a conspiracy theory:

“All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue. It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter.”

Fortunately, the court of California did as Jamie expressed exactly and selected the best option for Britney. Judge Penny’s decision to suspend Jamie also came after a handful of disturbing allegations were presented.

Thanks to the Free Britney movement’s interest, the New York Times released a second documentary on Britney's conservatorship. “Controlling Britney Spears” exposed several upsetting claims against Jamie.

For example, a former security team member revealed that the star was under surveillance per Jamie’s orders. Other allegations included the singer being threatened of losing her children if she didn't cooperate.

Thankfully, Britney is finally freed from the situation and feels the love and support from her fans. She can now live her life the way she sees fit, and she can be comforted in knowing that her supporters are always there.
