A mother grieving the loss of her son discovered his girlfriend was pregnant with his child at his funeral. She immediately requested a DNA test to confirm it was her late son's baby.

Nothing is more devastating than the death of a loved one. Now imagine losing your partner in a car crash while you are 13 weeks pregnant. For one woman, that was her reality. And she was there, mourning his death with his aged parents.

Redditor Existing_Presence221 revealed that she was overwhelmed when she found out her son's girlfriend was pregnant at his funeral. She felt he left a part of him for them. So, she asked his girlfriend to get a DNA test. The results revealed that the baby was indeed her son's.

The Original Poster (OP) and her husband then decided to help their late son's partner financially because they had bigger plans for their grandson. Since they were well off, they agreed to pay their son's girlfriend, whom they call "Lissa," monthly child support.

The OP was pretty shaken when Lissa informed her about her new partner adopting her son.

The grandparents had previously set aside some money for their late son's graduation and decided to use the funds on their grandson. While everything seemed perfect, Lissa had shocking news for them.

Lissa revealed that she had moved on and married a guy named Allen in the summer. The grandparents were genuinely happy for her. While they had good intentions towards Lissa, she didn't reciprocate with the same genuine thoughts. OP explained:

“Well, “Lissa” married a guy this summer. Call him Allen, seems nice, I’m happy for her. So anyway, Allen and Lissa come over this weekend, and want to “Talk.”

The OP was pretty shaken when Lissa informed her about her new partner adopting her son. The grandparents were quite happy as they knew the young boy needed a dad. However, they were distraught after Allen told them they'd be moving out of state with Dave.

Allen asked the OP to change her grandson's name on the accounts once the adoption was finalized. They told her that their meetings would be limited after that.

"And they will send us pictures, and we can see little Dave sometimes but are not to mention our son until he is "old enough," she explained.

The grandma was infuriated. She yelled at the couple and told them she wouldn't pay them the child support anymore. She said Allen could afford to pay since he badly wanted to be her grandson's stepdad.

She told them there were no accounts set up for Dave Jr. and lashed out at them for asking her to step out of her grandson's life. She added:

“And there are no accounts, and I’m not playing games and pretending to be a family friend or whatever this plan is. I also told them to [expletive] and get the hell out.”

Both Lissa and Allen condemned the OP for being so harsh. They tried convincing her through their family. Eventually, Allen's mother contacted the OP to have a discussion.

Her post amassed overwhelming support from the Reddit community. User Infamous-Wasabi-9007 sided with the OP in a comment that read: "We want you to stop being involved in Dave Jr's life, but we want you to still support him financially." If Allen wants to be the dad, he can be the dad. And the breadwinner."

After the incident, OP tried to move on, aware that her late son's partner had denied a relationship with her grandson. She and her family are still figuring out how to deal with the emotional situation.

Being told she couldn't mention her late son anymore must have felt like a huge betrayal. Along with money, even the grandparents' emotions were involved. We'd love to know your opinions!
