Getting along with your stepchild is necessary when marrying someone who already has kids. Unfortunately, the stigma associated with stepparents makes the process difficult. Some children often fail to accept their stepparents.

The Redditor also tried to befriend his wife's daughter. He gave her a lot of time to get used to the transition and adjust to the new space. Unfortunately, the girl did not accept his presence. Instead, she made his life a living hell.

DATING A WIDOW

A 32-year-old man started dating a widow named Andy. She was a year older than him and had lost her husband in a car crash five years earlier. The pair fell deeply in love.

Two years after dating each other, Andy and the OP (Original Poster) were thinking of getting married. She introduced Carrie to her future stepfather so that they could start building a relationship.

She didn't want her daughter to feel overwhelmed and decided to take things slow. Unfortunately, she could not have predicted that Carrie would never accept her boyfriend.

When Carrie met OP for the first time, she wasn't interested in talking to him. OP tried his best to break the ice since he understood her feelings and tried to assure her he didn't intend to replace her father.

On the other hand, Carrie refused to bond with the OP. She talked to him rudely and passed mean comments but Andy told him to give her some time. She expected her daughter to accept the OP after a few more meetings.

OP's efforts didn't go to waste and Carrie appeared to slowly get along with him, but she still didn't accept him completely. She often passed snide remarks and said inappropriate things to him.

After introducing Carrie to her boyfriend and giving them time to get along, Andy thought it was time for them to tie the knot. Once they got married, OP invited Andy and her daughter to move in with him.

She was delighted and happily accepted the offer but decided to talk to Carrie before moving in with her husband. Unfortunately, Carrie wasn't comfortable with moving into her stepfather's house. Since she was a minor, Carrie had no choice.

The couple assumed Carrie's behavior would improve once she started living in the OP's house. They thought living together would bring Carrie closer to the OP but the next few months were an eye-opener for the couple.

CARRIE'S UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

A few days after moving in, Carrie started to show her true colors. She expressed her bitter feelings through her actions and made throwing plates and glasses on the floor a ritual. She didn't even bother picking up the broken pieces.

Andy tried calming her down and asked her not to be violent, but it was all in vain. Her behavior never improved and instead, worsened over time. She even harassed the neighbors.

OP lost his cool when he saw her break the crockery and yelled at her. He often made her clean the mess but these episodes continued for a year until Carrie did the unthinkable.

One day, the OP and his wife returned home and realized someone was inside the garage. They were shocked to see Carrie standing there with a knife.

She had punctured the tires of his BMW X5 and scratched the shiny painted surface with her keys. This time OP had enough and asked her to leave the house immediately. However, his wife sided with Carrie.

The OP was surprised by his wife's decision and told her to leave the house with her daughter. He then asked Carrie to pay for the damage and threatened to sue her if she refused. The OP also decided to file for divorce.

The total cost of the damages done to his car was worth €6000 and his insurance company refused to cover the costs. So in the end he was forced to file charges against Carrie.

Andy met the OP with her lawyer and they decided she would pay the charges when she had enough money. Carrie's destructive attitude had led to the end of their marriage.
