Starting a Family

The former couple celebrated their union in the "Silverado" star's estate in 2004. That day, the groom arrived in a fantasy-like carriage, pulled by a horse while his bride followed in a vintage pickup truck. After their vows, it was not long enough before they finally welcomed their first child, Cayden.

As a man with previous relationships, Costner was happy with four children he shared with his ex-lovers, three of whom were with his then-wife, Cindy.

Cayden is followed by a brother, Hayes, and a sister, Grace. Costner has never been more invested in his family, raising his kids in their Aspen dream home despite his initial hesitations about becoming a father to more. The emotional father once shared:

"I have played two roles in my life, one I get paid to do, which is the movies, and the other one is being a father, for which I'll be rewarded my whole life."

Love was in the air as the couple dated for four years, though shortly separated from a disagreement over their future family. As a man with previous relationships, Costner was happy with the four children he shared with his ex-lovers, three of whom were with his then-wife, Cindy Silva.

"Fear kept me from marrying Christine. [She] wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn't be an effective father," Costner previously said. Nevertheless, their love was rekindled as the actor came to terms with himself, realizing that it wasn't worth losing the most significant part of his life due to fear.

Costner was previously married to his college sweetheart, Cindy, whom he met at California State University. The pair tied the knot in 1978 and welcomed three kids, Annie, Lily, and Joe. Their marriage lasted for years, but after working together on "Dances with Wolves," they began to face marital problems.

Although they tried to save their marriage, eventually, it ended in divorce. It wasn't until years after that Costner met Baumgartner, following a relationship with Bridget Rooney, and was happy with his family for a while.

Costner's Divorce

In early May 2023, news broke that Costner's wife had filed for divorce. Baumgartner cited "irreconcilable differences" in the divorce papers. A representative for the star said he was shocked and saddened by his wife's decision.

Costner was allegedly "blindsided" by the divorce and has asked for privacy during this time difficult time. A source close to him says that he would rather not get divorced, but is respecting Baumgartner's decision for now.

During a court appearance in September 2023, the star confessed that his divorce “feels so bad," because his ex-wife is someone he loves. Since his wife filed, rumors have been swirling that Costner has been unfaithful to her.

However, a source close to him says that the rumors are simply not true and that the actor has always been faithful and devoted. Later that same month, the former couple's divorce was finally settled with him being ordered to pay $63k monthly in child support.

In early December 2023, the star was photographed bonding with Jewel, while visiting Richard Branson's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Costner and Jewel attended a tennis fundraiser for the Inspiring Children Foundation, an organization that the latter is a founder of.
