'I Had to Save My Mom:' 9-Year-Old Girl Fights off Robber That Attacked Her Mother

This month a 9-year-old girl was praised for trying to protect her mother as a robber accosted her. The incident was recorded via a security camera, and netizens commended the youngster for her bravery.

A Florida mother was getting into her car when a man attacked her. The woman was saved by an unlikely hero—her little girl. The child ran around the car and fought off the man, later identified as Demetrius Jackson.

The incident was captured on camera and has garnered Journee Nelson a lot of fans. The West Palm Beach Police Department also honored her for her quick thinking and efforts.

UNDERESTIMATED THE YOUNG GIRL

Nelson's mom, Danielle Mobley, loaded her groceries into her car after shopping at the Sabor Tropical Supermarket. Jackson saw it as a perfect opportunity to attack the woman, but he underestimated the little girl.

She threw a few punches his way and did whatever she could to stop him from injuring her mom. Nelson said: "I fought back. I had to save my mom."

AWARDED A MEDAL FOR BRAVERY

Jackson purportedly tried to grab her purse and told her to let go of it or else he would hit her. The camera footage showed just how quickly everything transpired. The police were also able to apprehend the suspect.

Nelson, on the other hand, visited the police department for a different reason. She was handed a medal and a certificate for her courageous actions. In a post shared on their Facebook page, they detailed their pride regarding the girl.

PROUD OF HER ACTIONS

The police chief at the station, Frank Adderley, expressed:

"I wouldn't recommend that you confront an individual like that, but in the heat of the moment things happen. I bet he was shocked when she kicked him right in the face."

While the mother is grateful for her daughter's actions, she shared: "I'm very proud that was her initial reaction. I wish, sometimes, things could be a little different because she is still dealing with this mentally."
