Teenager Gets Emotional Watching the Video of Her Mother Abandoning Her Hours after Being Born

Fourteen years after abandoning her eight-hour-old daughter at Sydney's Liverpool Hospital, a mother finally reunited with her child, and the experience was an emotional one. Here is the whole story.

Eight hours after Jessica Boatwright was born in 2005, her mother abandoned her. The news sparked national headlines and appeals for the child's mother to come forward, but for 14 years, she did not.

In April 2019, Boatwright, who was 14 years old, made a public appeal for her birth mother to come forward on A Current Affair. The teenager's decision to look for her mother came after watching the footage of her mother abandoning her after birth.

In a YouTube video shared by A Current Affair, Boatwright said she had read articles and seen pictures for many years but never watched the CCTV clip. The video showed the woman cradling her baby daughter, who was wrapped in a towel.

The woman arrived at the doors of Sydney's Liverpool hospital. When spotted by hospital staff, the mother and child were immediately admitted into a ward.

Hours after the mother and child were admitted, the woman sneaked out, leaving her eight-hour-old child behind. As expected, the tear-jerking video made the girl emotional, and she was moved to search for her mom.

Boatwright's 2019 appeal captured viewers' hearts and, most importantly, prompted the woman who gave birth to her to come forward. The teenager told A Current Affair during an interview that what transpired in 2005 was not her mother's fault.

All she wanted was to give her birth mother a big hug and let her know that she should not feel terrible or guilty in any way. Boatwright's wish was fulfilled not long after her appeal, and she finally reunited with her long-lost mom.

Boatwright's mom, who wished to remain anonymous, told A Current Affair that she felt guilty every single day. She abandoned her baby because she was scared and did not know what to do.

Boatwright's mother had found out that she was pregnant at 18 and hid the pregnancy. Nine months after, she gave birth quietly at home, using scissors to cut the umbilical cord. With no knowledge of what to do, she was forced to go to the hospital.

The woman said giving up her daughter was the hardest decision she ever made, and she lived in regret for 14 years. However, after hearing Boatwright's appeal and her words about forgiveness and love despite everything, she decided to reach out.

After the woman met with Boatwright, the police reopened the case, and after a DNA test was done, it was discovered that the lady was Boatwright's biological mother.

Since reuniting with her mother, Boatwright said the experience had filled the beginning of her life. Also, it has filled a hole she has had for 14 years. Finally, she tagged her reunion with her mother "a miracle."
