Sara Evans and her husband, former football player Jay Barker, filed for divorce after police allegedly arrested Barker following an attempt to strike the singer with his vehicle.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the details of Evans's separation from a former partner made headlines. Fourteen years ago, her messy divorce from her first husband and the father of her children captured the media's attention.

The former couple married in 1993 and welcomed three children together. In 2006, the couple announced their separation, which caused the songwriter to leave

The grounds for the divorce in court documents were "adultery," "inappropriate marital conduct," and "irreconcilable differences." Later, the media shared Evans's graphic and explicit accusation against Schelske.

In the end, the courts awarded Evans the family's Tennesse home, while Schelske got two homes in Oregon. Evans also had to pay her ex-husband $600,000 in alimony.

With her divorce behind her, Evans seemed to have landed the love jackpot when she met Jay Barker after Evans's minster Joe Beam introduced them to each other as they were both divorcees.

The couple became good friends and bonded over their mutual pain and understanding of divorce. Evans and Barker later fell in love and decided to tie the knot with encouragement from their children.

At the time, Evans gushed to People Magazine about her radio presenter husband and admitted she thanked God every day for bringing Barker into her life. Evans told the outlet:

"It was hard for me to believe he was real and that he loves me the way he loves me. I thank God many times a day for bringing me Jay."

However, after 12 years and creating a blended family together, Evans filed for divorce from Barker in August 2021, citing "inappropriate marital conduct" and irreconcilable differences.

Following the divorce filing, Barker allegedly tried to hit Evans with his vehicle. Police later arrested and charged Barker with assault, and his bond was set at $12,000.

According to police, Evans had allegedly left her neighbor's party in Nashville and got into the passenger seat of a friend's car. As they were passing the driveway, Evans claimed she saw Barker "backing up his vehicle at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missed."
