Katherine Ross was born in Hollywood, California January 29, 1940. Her father was a commander in the navy when she was born, which moved the family around. They eventually settled in Walnut Creek outside San Fransisco, where Ross grew up. After she began her acting career as an understudy in Actor's Workshop productions, her career snowballed, especially in Westerns, a genre she is most well-known for.

Actor Sam Elliot was born in California on August 9, 1944, and grew up in Oregon. He decided on an acting career at just nine years old and kicked his career off with an appearance in the 1969 "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." Elliot is best known for portraying Western heroes and outlaws and has shunned the idea of being seen as a Hollywood sex symbol.

A SWOON-WORTHY LOVE STORY

Elliot and Ross met in London on a set of a horror film, "The Legacy" in 1978. This wasn't their first film together, they both worked on the set of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," Elliot's breakout role almost ten years earlier, but the pair never spoke. They worked closely together in 1978, but Ross was married. She later divorced in 1979, and they got married in 1984.

Ross had previously been married to Joel Fabiani (1960-1962), John Marion (1964-1967), Conrad L. Hall (1969-1974), and Gaetano Lisi (1974-1979). Elliot had not been married before. When speaking of whether she was first attracted to his good looks or baritone voice, she said, "Probably all that and more. We were working together, and one thing led to another. And here we are."

While they were on honeymoon in Hawaii, Elliot received an offer to play superstar Cher's biker boyfriend in the 1985 film, "The Mask." After Elliot refused to return early from the honeymoon to test for the role, Ross called Elliot's agent back to say that she would get her husband back in time.

MEET THEIR ONLY CHILD

Ross and Elliot welcomed their only child, Cleo Rose Elliot, in the same year they got married. She was trained in classical music but said her passion was in heavy rock. in 2009, she released an album entitled " No More Lies." The album features pop-rock sounds, and she wrote all but one of its songs.

Instead of pursuing acting in the shadow of her famous actor parents, Elliot decided to pursue fame by carving out a career in music, and her parents were all for it. "My parents are totally supportive of this. They're just happy I don't want to be an actor," she said. After releasing her album, she decided to take a breather and focus on spending time with her pets.

Despite having famous parents, Elliot leads a quieter life, choosing to keep her Instagram account private. But her partner cyclist and video maker, Randy Christopher Bates, posts her frequently on his account as her "WCW." Elliot is also a model who has posed for "The Colorist Magazine."

MOTHER & DAUGHTER'S ROUGH RELATIONSHIP

In 2011, Bates filed a restraining order against her daughter after they had a massive fallout. According to the court documents, Elliot repeatedly stabbed her mother in the arm with scissors and threatened to kill her. Ross also said Elliot "verbally and emotionally abused me even as a little girl but became increasingly violent at age 12 or 13."

Ross filed the protective order without an attorney, and Elliot was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from her mother and not contact her until the hearing. However, the pair seemed to fix their relationship before the hearing as they didn't show up to the hearing, forcing the judge to dismiss the temporary restraining order.

Five years later, Elliot was seen posing with her parents in photos sponsored by the "Women's Professional Rodeo Association." She has also attended a few of her father's red carpet premiers. In 2018, Bates posted an Instagram photo of Elliot posing with her parents at the "A Star is Born" premiere. She also attended "A Good Dinasour" premiere with her parents in 2015.

SECRET TO LONG MARRIAGE

Elliot and Ross have been married for 38 years now and are one of Hollywood's most enduring couples. When asked what their secret to a long marriage is, Elliot said:

“We have a common sensibility, but we also work at being together. You work past the ****; you don't walk away from it. That's how relationships last.”

In 2017, the couple worked together again in the film "The Hero," directed by Brett Haley. "Katharine plays [my character's] ex-wife. Something else that was great about this was seeing Katharine work again," Elliot said. He added that working with his wife was overall fun and positive experience.

Elliot said that he wanted nothing more than to be married, have a family, and have a movie career. He added that he has all those things in abundance and is grateful to have his daughter. Reflecting on their marriage, he said, "We - I think really what it boils down to is we love each other, and we work at it. And I think more importantly than anything; it takes wanting to be married."
