Before jumping to the main story, the woman revealed some details about her past. Her grandmother was a generous woman who left a college fund for her and her siblings.

However, she didn't get the chance to use that money because she got pregnant when she was 18. After giving birth to her child, she couldn't go to college.

She decided to move to another state with her husband and start a new life there. She had two children at the age of 20 and worked an hourly job to cover their expenses.

The woman thought she would have the perfect family, but things didn't go as planned. She got divorced at the age of 36, a few years before her children would start college.

"I am so angry and hurt," the woman confessed.

She shared that she had struggled a lot, and it wasn't easy to juggle between work and children. Working an hourly job often made her worry about her children's future.

Since she couldn't save enough money from her job to pay for her children's college fees, she decided to use the money that she had inherited from her grandmother.

Her siblings had used their inherited funds either for college or for buying a new house. She was the only one who hadn't used her money.

However, when she checked her inherited money, she realized it wasn't there. Someone had used it without her permission. Upon further investigation, she found out her parents had used it behind her back.

Some years ago, her father quit his job and decided to invest in real estate. After making a few bad deals, he lost all of his money and struggled financially.

Instead of changing his lifestyle by cutting their expenses, her parents took out her inheritance money and spent it on themselves.

"I am so angry and hurt," the woman confessed, "I've decided not to have my parents in my life anymore." She shared that this was not the only reason why she stopped talking to them. They had been hurting her for many years, and taking her money was the breaking point.

After she cut ties with her parents, her siblings berated her. They called her "awful" and stopped talking to her. Meanwhile, she felt it was the best decision of her life.

She also revealed that her parents were close to her children, so she didn't let her decision affect their relationship. She allowed her children to meet their grandparents and never painted a negative image of them.

However, thinking about her siblings' decision of not talking to her made her share her story on Reddit. She asked other Redditors if she was at fault.

"NTA. The way you felt after you cut them off is proof that you made the right choice," Redditor hraedon replied. The Redditor also asked the woman if her parents had apologized for stealing her money.

She replied that they never admitted to withdrawing the money from her account. Her mother acted like she didn't know anything, while her father accused her of spending the money.

howdarebread asked OP when her parents are planning to pay her back. She replied that they didn't have enough money to pay her back.

Most Redditors agreed the woman was not at fault. They felt her parents shouldn't have taken the money from her college funds account without her permission.

Questions to Ponder:

If OP's parents had asked her for the money, how would have things turned out?

OP had been saving her money for her children's college and was blindsided when she discovered her parents had used it without her knowledge. If her parents had asked her for it, would OP have obliged? If you were OP, would you oblige your parents too?

Do you think her anger is justified?

OP's siblings believed she shouldn't cut ties with her parents. They felt she overreacted. On the other hand, she felt she had made the best decision by not talking to her parents. Would you do the same if you were in her place?
