Kourtney Kardashian Emotional After Her Kids Are Not Present for Travis Barker’s Proposal
When Travis Barker popped the big question to Kourtney Kardashian, her family members were present for the big moment. However, the absence of her children from the important moment in her life didn't sit well with Kourtney.
"Keeping up with the Kardashians" has ended its years-long run, but the family who made the show what it was are still very much around and have launched a new series on Hulu titled "The Kardashians."
The show started airing recently on Hulu, and the latest episode was quite an emotional one as it captured the romantic proposal of Travis Barker to Kourtney.

The whole affair was witnessed by many of their close family members, including Kourtney's sisters, Kim, Khloe, Kylie, and Kendall.
However, Kris Jenner, the clan's matriarch, chose not to involve Kourtney's three kids from her past relationship with Scott Disick.
While nobody contested her decision, Kourtney felt sad about it, and she was seen tearing up afterward while declaring that it may not have been her mom's best.

WHY KOURTNEY'S KIDS WEREN'T AT THE PROPOSAL
Kourtney Kardashian and her handsome beau, Travis Barker, got engaged back in October 2021 when the talented drummer surprised her with a ring at the Rosewood Miramar hotel in Montecito, California.
Travis let Kris Jenner in on the surprise so she could lend him a hand. As they planned the romantic surprise, she decided that it would be best for Kourtney's three kids, Mason, 12, Penelope, 9, and Reign, 7, if they were absent even though the drummer's children would be there.

In a statement she made in the moments leading up to the proposal, Kris said:
"I'm not sure if any of us know exactly how they're going to react. I think it's her decision to break it to her kids how she wants."
Later in the episode, Kris added that Kourtney's kids being there may have left their father in an awkward position because they would have had to get the kids to the scene by lying, which would have made things hard for everyone involved.

However, she also pointed out that all of Travis's kids were adults, which meant they could understand things better.
Kris had been acting solely in the best interest of her daughter and grandkids, but it didn't mean Kourtney had to like it, and she said as much in a confessional after learning that they had not been invited. She said:
"I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would've made them feel more included in the decision and part of the surprise."
The 43-year-old got choked up as she stated that even though it was Kris's decision, "it probably wasn't her best."
Her mom's reasoning had not convinced her. However, she had also expressed worry about how Scott Disick would take the engagement.
HOW THE KIDS REACTED TO THE ENGAGEMENT
Later on, as they celebrated the proposal, Kourtney and Travis decided to reveal the news to his father via FaceTime. The devoted mom then raised the topic of telling her kids.
Not long after, she saw missed calls from her daughter Penelope on her phone, so she left the table where they had been gathered to call her back. Kim joined Kourtney in the room; she entered and sat by her side as she face-timed her daughter and told her about the engagement.
Viewers could not see the phone screen; however, after the proud mother revealed that Travis had proposed, crying was heard on the phone.

Kim and Kourtney were trying to pacify Penelope, but the little girl did not have it, and a moment later, the call was ended abruptly, leaving Kourtney looking dejected at the girl's reaction. In a confessional after the fact, Kourtney said:
"I feel bad for P. Penelope took it hard. I think it's a big change for her and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn't know what that means. Is that taking me away? I think she doesn't know what it means."
Eventually, Kourtney and Kim's other sisters came to talk about what had happened when Khloe revealed that she thinks Kourtney's kids are worried that Travis is replacing their father by marrying their mom, which is why Penelope's reaction was justified.

SCOTT DISICK HAD AN OPINION TOO
In the Thursday episode, Scott Disick, who is the father of Kourtney's three kids, got in contact with Khloe after he learned that Travis had popped the big question and let her know that while he will "always love" Kourtney, he is also happy for her and her partner. He said:
"I wasn't that caught off guard. I thought that they'd already be married [from] the way that she was talking. It wasn't crazy. Thank God, because at another time in my life, if I'd heard that, life would've been over for me."
He also stated that it feels like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, claiming that he could not be all that Kourtney had needed and saluting Travis for willingly choosing to take her on because she is complicated.
One thing he was not happy about, however, was the fact that their kids had been excluded, especially because the drummer's children, Landon, 18, and Alabama, 16, had been invited.
According to Khloe, when he had asked why they were left out, she had answered that it was "because they were too young."
Scott later added that he does not want to be pushed out of things that concern family affairs that have to do with the children and that he thinks he and Kourtney will have to talk about it even though it seems like she doesn't want to.

KHLOE DEFENDS HER MOTHER
While Kourtney Kardashian has decided that Kris could have chosen a better alternative, Khloe has remained on the matriarch's side.
According to a tweet from the gorgeous TV personality on Thursday, it was a complicated step to take, and nobody knew the right thing to do, but she wrote that she believes that Kris "did her best."
She also stated that nobody in the family had malicious intent about what had happened, and everyone had just been trying to do their best with the sensitive subject."
