Selma Blair talked about her struggles with multiple sclerosis and how far she has come. She also spoke about how she was molested at a young age by a teacher and how she tried to drown her worries away with alcohol.

She mentioned that alcoholism was an escape route from the troubles she faced instead of being haunted by it daily.

The actress, who recently published her memoir, "Mean Baby," talked about her early pains, which she believed could have been early signs of MS.

She managed this constant pain throughout her childhood and adult life, and neither her health failings nor alcohol dependence deterred her from getting to the top of her career.

In 2018 Blair was diagnosed with MS and struggled with the pains and everything associated with the disease. In 2019, the sickness became chronic, and it was difficult for her to walk or talk as it had reached its peak.

She had to undergo a two-month hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) which was described as a risky procedure. The actress recounted it was a painful period of her life – the illness and recuperating phases.

After undergoing chemotherapy at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, it was a long walk to recovery, says the actress, but she's getting there. Her MS has been said to be in remission now. While it hasn't been cured, as there's no cure for it, it's no longer progressing.

SELMA BLAIR ABOUT MOTHERHOOD

Besides being an actress, Blair is a doting mother to her son Arthur who is 10. Arthur was the major reason for Blair quitting the bottle after she passed out on a plane beside her son, who was just four. It was at that point she decided she was going to be a good mom to her son and be sober.

The actress has been sober since 2016 and has had her son and her labrador Scout as her support throughout her MS crisis.

She had her son with her former lover, Jason Bleick, whom she dated from 2010 to 2012 before they broke up, just 14 months after the birth of Arthur.

Blair has written a documentary that centers around her life. She took this bold step to show who she really is and her struggles. The documentary titled "Introducing, Selma Blair" is her personal account of dealing with and surviving MS. She said:

"This is my human condition, and everyone has their own, but I think we are united in feeling alone or frightened when we have a big change in our lives. This wasn't a vanity project at all, and I'm very capable of loving vanity."

To her fans, Blair is a real-life superhero as she battles and is still on the road to complete physical health, but they can be sure that she will pull through as she is a survivor.
