Reeves and Grant, who started as friends and collaborators, revealed their romance to the world in November 2019 when they made their red carpet debut at the LACMA Art + Film Gala presented by Gucci in L.A.

Nearly two decades before his relationship with Grant, Reeves suffered a devastating loss. On April 2, 2001, his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Syme perished in a tragic car crash. She was 28.

Syme had come from a party at the home of Marilyn Manson. Another party guest drove her home shortly before dawn, but she later left her home, reportedly to return to Manson's home.

More than a year before the tragedy, Syme gave birth to her baby daughter with Reeves. But their daughter, named Ava Archer Syme-Reeves, was stillborn, which reportedly led to Syme's depression.

Reeves and Syme, who met and fell in love at a promotional party for his alternative rock band Dogstar, were together from 1998 to 2000. They never married but lived together happily.

He once opened up about her death, saying he struggled to cope with it. The actor appeared to have tapped into his real-life grief to portray his famous John Wick character, who also lost his wife.
