Before Meghan Markle became a royal, she married her first husband, Trevor Engelson. She once felt her life would be incomplete without him, and he worshipped her, but things changed.

Before becoming Duchess Meghan, Meghan Markle was in love with Trevor Engelson. The pair dated for seven years before hosting a weekend of parties and celebrations ahead of their wedding.

They tied the knot in September 2011 in an extravagant Jamaica ceremony. Sadly, the couple's marriage ended in divorce, and now Tom Bower, a royal author, was expected to release a new biography about the former couple's marriage.

Unlike Meghan, Engelson had never publicly spoken about their marriage or the duchess. Neil Sean, a royal commentator, and expert believed the royal's ex-husband might have "an axe to grind" as we "only know her version of events."

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he noted how there were two sides to the reason behind the former couple's divorce, and only Meghan's was known. However, before the pair ended things, they were so in love.

Andrew Morton, author of "Meghan: A Hollywood Princess," claimed in his book that the former "Suits" actress once "could not imagine" a life without Engelson. Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan's half-brother, told Morton that the former couple once adored each other, adding:

“She was completely head over heels and seemed really happy when I saw them together, despite the sad circumstances — they seemed extremely happy together.”

At the time, the former couple was together at Meghan's half-brother's grandmother's funeral. Later, Thomas Jr. noted how Engelson had felt about his half-sister saying he'd "worshipped the ground she walked on."

WHY MEGHAN AND TREVOR'S MARRIAGE FELL APART

Sadly, Meghan and her ex-husband's marriage started showing cracks. When the actress finally got her big acting break in "Suits," she had to relocate from Los Angeles, and she and Engelson lived in different countries.

In Morton's book, he noted how Engelson opened an office in New York so he could be closer to his wife. Suddenly, "What once endeared now irritated" the former loving couple, and:

“Meghan, a self-confessed perfectionist who was as fastidious as she was controlling, had tolerated Trevor's scattered approach to life for years.”

He arrived late, walked around with "rumpled clothes," messy hair, and often had new stains on his seersucker jacket. In contrast, Meghan's Summerhill home was perfect with ironed-out items.

According to Morton, the former actress once traveled back to their Los Angeles home after Engelson had been living there alone for some weeks and was shocked at the mess. When he visited her in Toronto, he'd started feeling like a stranger, as the writer said:

“Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan who once said she couldn't imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself.”

Toronto had started becoming Meghan's new home, and her relationship with Engelson changed. She was her own person, making new friends, earning a salary, and not depending on her husband's connections.

The star had spent years allegedly asking Engelson to assist her with getting cast in his projects or to get auditions. The couple had a Vitamix blender that cost $500 and symbolized the growing distance between the two.

The former actress allegedly insisted that the kitchen appliance should go with her to Toronto. She packed it in the back seat of her car that was being moved by truck whereas she could've just bought a new one.

In Canada, it sat on her kitchen counter as a reminder that her home was no longer in Los Angeles. After drifting away from each other, the couple finally faced facts, and in 2013 they separated.

Meghan was the one who filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. In 2019, Engelson got remarried to Tracey Kurland, a multi-millionaire heiress with whom he had two daughters.

Morton's book revealed how Engelson was shocked by how his relationship with Meghan ended and allegedly "felt bitterly about it after five years." Ninaki Priddy, Meghan's oldest friend, reportedly said:

“It was such a surprise for Trevor that even at a distance of five years, he can barely contain his anger."

Priddy allegedly shared how the New Yorker, who was laid-back, would switch from his usual demeanor to fury when his ex's name was mentioned in conversations. Thomas Jr. supported the claim revealing that Engelson warned against saying Meghan's name around him.

However, what could interfere with things was the couple [Sussexes] wishing to make their own money, with [Tina] Brown anticipating that this could cause tension with the royals.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the former actress's half-brother explained how he and Engelson discussed a project he was working on several times. He didn't mind talking to Thomas Jr. but told him he'd hang up if he mentioned her name.

Thomas Jr. said he didn't understand the break-up because his half-sister's ex-husband was someone "who would have given her everything." He alleged that his former brother-in-law had lots of money, a successful production company, and treated the former actress well.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO MEGHAN AND HARRY'S UNION IF THEY LIVED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES?

While Meghan moved on from Engelson by marrying Prince Harry in 2018, there was speculation about the future of their relationship. Tina Brown, the "The Palace Papers" author, speculated at that moment that when the Queen died, things could change.

She thought a new charter would be drawn up with Harry because the Royal Family would realize they needed him somehow. Brown said at that moment that the Duke of Sussex might get more of what he desired.

She thought Meghan's husband would become a "commuter royal," adding: "I think that Harry is going to want to come back when the Queen dies to serve his country. And I think they will find a way to reel him in. And it's possible that Meghan — maybe they will have a commuter arrangement."

However, what could interfere with things was the couple wishing to make their own money, with Brown anticipating that this could cause tension with the royals. The writer felt Meghan might be more reluctant to return to the UK.

Thomas Jr. also had his take on the couple's relationship. In the series "Big Brother VIP," the Duchess of Sussex's half-brother said: "The guy she was married to the first time … She just walked all over him and dumped him. Harry's on the chopping block next."
