For most people, their family members are the only ones who support them in times of need. Whether they are emotionally disturbed or going through a bad financial situation, their close ones always have their back.

The man in today's story also supported his daughter while she was going through a challenging phase in her life. He promised to take care of her six children, even if that meant he had to sacrifice his needs to feed them.

THE HARDWORKING MAN

The story of a 57-year-old kind man, Alfredo Suárez, from Fusagasuga, Cundinamarca, Colombia, surfaced after he had to look after his six grandchildren alone. At the same time, he earned half the minimum wage and didn't have a house.

Despite looking after six dependants, Suárez didn't ask others for help. The grandfather continued to serve as a shoe shiner, looking for people who wanted someone to mend their shoes.

Since his earnings depended on the number of customers looking for his services, he didn't have a steady income stream. Some days, Suárez would earn more while returning home empty-handed on other days.

THE TRAGEDY

After Suárez's daughter left her four girls and two boys with him, he had no choice except to take care of them. The man revealed that his daughter didn't have money to look after her children after the father abandoned them. When she asked Suárez for help, he felt terrible for the little kids and decided to take them in.

NO BREAKFAST

Things became difficult for Suárez and his grandchildren whenever it rained before dawn. With water dripping from the roof of his flimsy hut, he couldn't turn on the makeshift firewood cooker to prepare breakfast for the kids. He said:

"When it rains, I [can't] turn it on and they go to school without breakfast."

Sending his grandchildren to school without feeding them was pretty tough for Suárez. He confessed that he often cried when the kids asked him for food, and he had no money to fulfill their needs.

The innocent kids didn't care if their grandfather didn't have money. They loved him because he cared for them. Suárez even helped them with their homework despite his limited knowledge. His granddaughter confessed:

"He helps us with homework, he makes us lunch, that's why I love him a lot. He is like my mom and dad and I love him very much."

AN EMERGENCY

February 20, 2022, was the day Suárez turned 57, and nature surprised him with an unfortunate incident. That night, strong winds blew away his ranch hut's roof, causing rain to pour inside directly.

With no roof over his head, Suárez stood with his six grandchildren while it rained heavily that night. After the police learned about Suárez's heartwrenching situation, a few officers, who often came to him to clean their shoes, showed solidarity with the selfless grandfather. A policeman said:
