King Charles Proposed Twice to 'Dangerous Version of Diana' Yet Was Dumped While He & Camilla 'Socialized'
Before King Charles III married Princess Diana, three women were the most important in his life. He proposed twice to one of the women, Anna Wallace, but the People's Princess wasn't a threat to Queen Consort Camilla, unlike the former, who was a dangerous version of Diana.
In Sarah Bradford's book, "Diana," she revealed that when King Charles III was still a bachelor, only three women were important to him. They were his nanny, Mabel Anderson, his mother, the late Queen, and his grandmother, the late Queen Mother.
Bradford claimed His Majesty fell in love easily and was quite romantic but was shy and frightened of young women and unable to commit to them. So he started dating around but kept most of the women at arm's length.

Some of the women he dated were reluctant to get serious with him because of the perils and expectations of royal life. However, the new monarch was allegedly only confident and comfortable around older and married women.
One such person was the former Dale Harper, whom His Majesty nicknamed "Kanga." However, she wasn't a match for the current Queen Consort Camilla, who, in 1973, was married to her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.

The type of woman the King wanted was allegedly blonde, tall, with an English rose complexion, and curvaceous - all boxes that Camilla ticked. Before his second wife came onto the scene, King Charles dated several women.
His official biographer, Jonathan Dimbleby, said the women His Majesty dated included Lucia Santa Cruz, then Sibylla Dorman, and lastly Cindy Buxton before Duchess Camilla came into the picture.

Before King Charles III married his current wife, Camilla, he had a union with the mother of his two children, Princess Diana. However, before the People's Princess was chosen, His Majesty had his eye set on another woman.
The Woman King Charles Almost Married before Princess Diana
The closest King Charles III came to finding a royal bride was when he met Anna Wallace. According to Bradford's book, Wallace fit the royal's requirements as she was tall, blonde, and beautiful.

She was described as a "marvelous-looking girl with sparkling personality and presence" while hunting in the field. Wallace was one of the new monarch's women that seemed to be a shoo-in as she'd once lunched with the Queen.
She was reportedly nicknamed "Whiplash Wallace" because she had impressive hunting skills and a fiery personality. However, she was also described as the dangerous version of the late Diana but reckless as a horsewoman.

While the 16-year-old future People's Princess wasn't a threat to Camilla, Wallace was. However, she barely stood a chance against the future Duchess as in the summer of 1980; King Charles showed how much he loved Camilla.
His Majesty's former girlfriend, Jane Ward, recalled how the royal spent that evening with Camilla, despite her being married. He shared a table with the Parker Bowles couple, and when he danced with Andrew's wife, they allegedly "kissed passionately."

The future Queen Consort's then-husband didn't seem bothered by the display. A friend of Andrew's said his focus was on something else and was flattered that the heir to the throne was interested in his wife.
How and What Caused Anna to Call Things off with King Charles
Andrew Morton's "Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words" revealed that King Charles III met Wallace in November 1979 during a fox hunting excursion. The writer described Wallace as impulsive, willful, and unsuitable for life as a royal.

The relationship between His Majesty and Wallace became so serious that he asked her to marry him twice. When she turned him down the first time, it did nothing but make him want her even more.
The couple had a fallout by June 1980 during the Queen Mother's eightieth birthday celebration at a ball in Windsor Castle. According to the book, Wallace was so enraged she was heard saying:
"Don't ignore me like that. I've never been treated so badly in my life. No one treats me like that, not even you."

However, King Charles, undeterred, did the same thing at their next public appearance. While at a Stowell Park polo dance in Cirencester, His Majesty neglected his date once more to spend time dancing the night away with a married Camilla.

The royal, then known as Prince Charles, was reportedly seen "lip-locked" with his future second wife. Wallace was so upset she borrowed Lady Celia Vestey, the hostess' car, and drove off angry and humiliated by her date; a witness said:
"She was a virtual wallflower while the Prince socialized."

This time she allegedly called things off, and she was married to Johnny Hesketh within a month. By November 2007, Daily Mail claimed Wallace had avoided discussing her failed romance with King Charles.
She reportedly only opened up about it the following year. In Morton's book, he alleged that Camilla pretended to be friends with King Charles and was allowed to vet his girlfriends, acting as if she was helping him find a royal bride.

However, she was really assessing any threats to their relationship. During his bachelor years, His Majesty's partners served more as eye candy than anything else and had to fit in his lifestyle.
King Charles had them as "interested spectators" while he went fishing, played polo, or went fox hunting. When he had dinner dates, the women always had to travel to his place at Buckingham Palace, and not the other way around.

During concerts or operas, his staff would organize box seats and also send flowers to the new monarch's dates. An alleged friend even once described King Charles as a "charming male chauvinist."
However, a hundred years before, Walter Bagehot, a Victorian constitutionalist, revealed that such behaviors from the royal were "the prerogative of Princes." Eventually, His Majesty finally settled down when he and Camilla got married after she and Andrew divorced.
