Maisie Williams, who rose to fame after appearing in "Game of Thrones," has a family with a complicated history. Her parents are no longer together, and the actress has three siblings.

English actress Maisie Williams's parents separated when she was still very young. She made her acting debut on television on the popular HBO series "Game of Thrones" as Arya Stark. It was this same role that catapulted the actress to fame.

It also earned Maisie three top awards, an Emmy and a Portal Award for Best Supporting Actress and Best Performance from a Younger Actor with a Saturn Award. She also landed a role in "Doctor Who" and "The Falling," which earned her another award for her performance.

Maisie has already achieved a lot in her acting career; however, her upbringing wasn't easy, and she has a complicated family history. Even though her parents were separated, they were present in her life. Even so, the actress mostly credits her mom for her upbringing.

Maisie Williams's Parents Divorced When She Was a Little Girl

Maisie Williams's parents divorced when she was young, and she lived with both of them from time to time. She's from Bristol, southwest England; however, the actress spent her time in different places.

Maisie grew up between the outskirts of Bristol and Shirehampton due to her mother and father's separation and attended a school nearby. The actress also started living alone while she was still a teen.

She said she experienced a "traumatic relationship" with her father before she was eight.

The youngster left home when she was just 16 and went to live in Bath. Maisie has been open about how she feels about marriage. She revealed to Vulture in 2014 that she considers marriage pointless and doesn't see herself marrying. The actress said:

"I'm never going to get married. Right now, my view on marriage is that it's extremely pointless."

She went on to say that's why she always does designs on her wedding ring fingers because she'll "never wear a ring there." The 25-year-old further stated that marriage only complicates a person's life. She explained that if she had kept her mom's maiden name, which is Pitt, instead of using her dad's name Williams, she wouldn't have to change her name.

She also said nothing changes when two people get married and that there's no need to fix something that's not broken. The actress also revealed that she never settles anywhere and being married would make her feel "trapped." However, she also mentioned that she might change her mind about marriage when she falls in love.

Maisie Williams Had a Traumatic Relationship With Her Dad

Maisie Williams recently opened up about the kind of relationship she had with her father. The actress revealed on "The Diary of a CEO" podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett in September 2022 about the mistreatment she suffered from her dad as a kid.

She said she experienced a "traumatic relationship" with her father before she was eight. Maisie said it "consumed" her childhood, and she had trouble sleeping. She also expressed that she didn't realize that most of the things that happened to her were wrong and began noticing that other children didn't understand the "pain or dread or fear" that she went through.

The actress said she didn't want to go into too many details about her experience because she wanted to respect her other family members. However, she did mention her mom and revealed that she escaped when the actress was four months old.

The "Game of Thrones" actress detailed how only her teacher asked her "the right questions." after she spoke to her privately at school one day when she was eight. She said the teacher asked if she was okay or hungry, and Williams told her that she was and that not having breakfast at home was the norm.

Maisie said even though the truth had come out; she still wanted to "fight" to stop them from taking her away from her father, as being away from him wasn't something she was used to. The actress mentioned how her world sort of turned upside down. She said she was "indoctrinated in a way" and was glad she didn't "have to see" her father, even though the whole moment felt like it was against all that she was taught and "known to be true."

The 25-year-old revealed how she now feels about her father after her experience and said she has started to learn to stop herself from taking things personally. Maisie said she has stopped telling herself that what happened to her was her fault. She expressed:

"It's not because something is wrong with me that these things happened when I was a child."

In 2015, she paid tribute to her mom instead of her father on Father's Day. The actress revealed in her tweet that her mom played the role of mother and father to her. She was able to raise her and her siblings and called her "an amazing woman."

Maisie Williams's Mother Let Her Quit School to Film "Game of Thrones"

Maisie Williams and her mom Hilary Pitt Frances have a great mother-daughter relationship. During an interview with People in 2016, the actress revealed that she spoke to her mom daily.

"The New Mutants" actress also said she found out about her Emmy nomination for her role in "Game of Thrones" while chatting to her mom on FaceTime. The actress described it as the best way to find out the great news and that her mom was very excited about it.

The 25-year-old also revealed to the publication that her mom is a breast cancer survivor. She had only good things to say about her and further said:

"She's so caring and so lovely, but knowing her history and her past – she hasn't been dealt the best hand in life, and there's been a lot of things that have gone very against her. She has survived many, many times … survived relationships, survived breast cancer and constantly is just trying to do more to help other people."

Her mom has supported her career from the start, and she even allowed Maisie to leave school to pursue an acting career. After she got the role in "Game of Thrones," she had to leave school because her acting took up most of her time. Maisie's school and her mother decided it would be better for her to have tutors.

Her mom once expressed that she was "a great believer in opportunities," and the many opportunities that her daughter received were worth her not concentrating on her education. She further revealed that she thought about it long before deciding to let Maisie leave school.

Maisie Williams Has Two Brothers and a Sister

Maisie Williams isn't any only child but has three older siblings; two brothers and a sister. The siblings are quite artists, with her eldest brother James dabbling in body art and a history major. Her only sister Beth is a singer and her second brother Ted is a breakdancing instructor.

The 25-year-old actress often posts about her siblings on her social media. She shared 2015 a picture of her and James performing acrobatics and another one of them getting their nails done. Maisie said siblings are the best and once described James as "the coolest brother ever."

Her sister Beth became a mom in 2015, and the excited aunt shared the news on her Twitter page in May 2015 when her sister was still pregnant and announced a few days later that she had given birth.

Maisie Williams revealed in 2015 that she always used to perform for her family when growing up. Maisie Williams's family included her mom, stepdad, and siblings growing up. She said she enjoyed doing funny accents, which made her family laugh.
