Becoming a mother is an emotional yet thrilling experience for most women. They go through a whirlwind of emotions during their pregnancy period and can't wait to hold their little one in their arms.

Hanna-Kay Williams had a one-of-a-kind experience soon after her contractions began. Amidst the catastrophic storm, the mom realized it was time for her to go to the hospital.

It Was Time

Williams was with her fiancé and mother in their Brevard County home when suddenly, her contractions intensified. At that point, the mom-to-be knew she had to leave for the hospital as soon as possible.

After informing her family about the situation, Williams got into the car with her mother and fiancé, all set to drive through Hurricane Ian and deliver her baby safely. She said:

"I don't even remember driving through the storms because I was in my own mental hurricane."

The Long Wait

While dark clouds covered the sky and high-speed winds made the trees bend, the family drove to Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center. They reached the hospital at around 2 a.m. on September 28, 2022.

While the hospital said the family's faith and determination helped them throughout the procedure, Williams described her birthing experience.

However, Williams still had to wait for 20 hours before her baby came into this world. After observing Williams, her doctor, Christina Jackson, decided to take her in for an emergency C-section because the baby was going into distress.

The Baby

At 10:11 p.m., Williams gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Wajiha, who weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces. The parents were delighted to see their little angel. Williams recalled:

"I felt when she first (arrived) and they sat her on my lap, the first thing I said was, 'That’s a big baby.'"

"Her name means beautiful woman, glorious, and she was phenomenal throughout the birthing process," the new mom revealed. Williams was glad that she was able to deliver her baby safely amidst Hurricane Ian.

The Experience

While the hospital said the family's faith and determination helped them throughout the procedure, Williams described her birthing experience. She said she would "give everyone a gold star" and praised her nurse and doctor, saying:

"They made me feel like everything was going to be fine even through the hardest parts."

William's birthing experience was not typical, and she would surely remember it for the rest of her life. Meanwhile, the hurricane wreaked havoc in various parts of Florida as water levels rose to alarming levels.

The Destruction

Hurricane Ian entered Florida as a Category 4 Hurricane and caused immense destruction that people hadn't witnessed in years. The rising waters forced people to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in shelters and elevated areas.

"We were already expecting 12 to 20 inches of rain. Now we could go up to 30 in some areas." Orange County Emergency Manager Chief Lauraleigh Avery stated.

The authorities warned people not to drive on the flooded streets and asked them to stay in sheltered places until the water levels dropped. Meanwhile, military trucks and airboats roamed the streets to rescue people trapped in flooded areas.

"

This is still a hazardous situation

," Gov. Ron DeSantis said while talking to the local media on September 29. He also

the situation as a "500-year flood event."

We hope the flood doesn't cause more destruction and the water levels soon drop so people can return to their houses. Our prayers are with those affected by this natural disaster.
